Nashville Stars

PreviousPage 2 of 2

Former Red Sox and Florida Marlins executive Dave Dombrowski has joined the Nashville MLB initiative.

I appears the "STARS" are lining up for Nashville to get a MLB franchise sooner than later ... still probably after the next CBA is approved.

Since money is always important .... the entry fee that an expansion club would pay adds money to the coffers of the existing 30 franchises which after 2020 and a potential labor stoppage in 2022 while settling the new CBA will be a welcome boost even if they end up sharing national TV revenues with the expansion clubs.

Add the social climate that makes the inclusion of a minority owned franchise a boost to MLB's image.

Nashville has made all the right moves to get a jump on any potential competitors for expansion. If the process ends up being accelerated .... Nashville and Montreal (seeming a MLB favorite)?

Adding two gets them to 32 teams and really could set up realignment that would be very favorable to setting up regional rivalries while lowering travel costs.

Four Divisions of eight teams geographically established makes a lot of business sense. "WEST": SD; LAA; LAD; SF; OAK; COLO; AZ. Great for traveling to AWAY games and great for TV coverage in prime time.

2023 or 2024?

2023 or 2024?

Who would be the eighth?

If you place Houston or Texas in the West they won't be in the same division.

Are you sure there won't be 8 Divisions of 4 teams each?

That way you have 4 Division winners and 2 Wildcards in each league or are you also suggesting getting rid of the two leagues?

If so....how would the playoffs work?

8: SD - LAA - LAD - SF - OAK - SEA - COLO - AZ

===============

Opens a vast set of alternatives for leagues and playoffs.

At the core ... and I think they would go to 16 playoff clubs ... top 4 from each the four regional divisions.

Personally would align the "West" and the "Central West" with cross matchups in round 1 (#1 vs #4 in the other region ... #2 v #3) ... just like NCAA bracket seedings. Reseed for round #2 based on some pre-set criteria.

World Series would be the winners from the "West" vs. "East". Note since I am a bit old school (and TV gives me my fix of seeing any club I want) ... would have the regular season structured as a "West League" with no games played vs. the "East League" ... World Series with two teams representing two "Leagues" that have not played each other ... more intriguing?

CentralWest: HOU-TEX-STL-KC- CWS-CC-MILW-MINN

CentralEast: DET-CLEV-CINN-PITT-ATL-TB-MIA- (Nashville)

East: WASH-BALT-PHIL-NYM-NYY-BOST-TOR- (Montreal)

IT COULD WORK! (and owners make more profit)

Ah....I had forgotten about Sea. and you also left them off your list.

And to think they are our "biggest rivals"!

Apparently.

Pointless fact but it is about the same distance from SD to SEATTLE as it is to HOUSTON or DALLAS.

True but there's a time zone difference (I think) plus the Texas teams need to be in the same division with each other.

That's why I was wondering about the eighth team when we forgot about Sea.

Not sure about the rest of you but IMO the more teams the better.

I hope they "do" add two more soon.

There are plenty of players to go around....it may affect pitching but that would just lead to more offense.

I always though Buffalo and/or Las Vegas would get one though.Buffalo is a great minor league town but I guess we don't need a third NY team.

CentralEast: DET-CLEV-CINN-PITT-ATL-TB-MIA- (Nashville)

East: WASH-BALT-PHIL-NYM-NYY-BOST-TOR- (Montreal)

Boy,look at the talent difference between the Central East and the Central West and East though.

Yikes!
