Nashville Stars

12

I wanted to post this information, but didn't know where to put it. Hope nobody is offended. I moved from San Diego to Nashville (after 45 years) in 2015. I wanted to relay some interesting developments here as it relates to mlb. If there is expansion after the collective  bargaining agreement expires, Nashville is ready. I mean really ready.

They have a leadership team John Loar, who led the acquisition of two Major League Baseball franchises and executed both the acquisition and sale of the Seattle Seahawks; Alberto Gonzales, the former US Attorney General, and, significantly, Bob Kendrick, the president of the Negro Baseball Museum.

The team has a name, the Nashville Stars. There was a Negro League team in the 20s called the Stars (and besides Nashville has plenty of music industry stars), and the team has partnered with the Negro League Museum. They are thinking of starting their franchise with statues of Negro League stars like Chester Charleston, Cool Papa Bell, Buck Leonard, and Satchel Paige. There are 35 members of the Negro League Hall of Fame, and they are thinking of have 35 plagues placed all around the stadium with their lifetime stats on them. In addition, the stadium they hope to build with private funds would meet 42,000 for Jackie Robinson. It's going to be hard to turn that down.

If Nashville does get a team, I hope its in the National League so I don't have to drive to Atlanta or St. Louis to see the Padres!

They have colors, red, white and blue, and a website: http://www.musiccity.com

Check it out.

Interesting ... long contended that Nashville should be a prime candidate for expansion (or move of another franchise) ... a vibrant growing community. Glad to hear they are primed to bid with an advanced plan.

Manfred has put as a precursor to expansion the resolution of the ball park issues in TB and Oakland ... maybe as leverage if they suggest moving one of those franchises.

If they expand ... likely 2 teams and balance the leagues at 16. The league does seem to like Montreal (I guess for the international exposure with Toronto but the were a failed franchise). Hard to assess the other contenders but expect San Antonio (they keep trying), Portland OR, maybe somewhere in the Carolinas, Buffalo.

Not sure which other franchise would object it they believe Nashville is in their territory ... CINN? ATL? WASH? STL? ... who is the ML team the city follows?

Do you mean the Portland Antifa's?

I would think Las Vegas would be in the running.Especially now that they have the NFL.

Ouch!   Come on there's some (one?) Pads fans up here in NW!

Portland's got a pretty organized group too (Portland Diamond project) & an ideal physical location for the stadium, if not ideal weather or geographical location.  I don't know if they're assuming retractable roof like Seattle; seems like they'd have to.

I was so bummed the Portland Beavers AAA PCL moved out right before we moved here.  All the metro area has now is a NW league team in Hillsboro (West)... HAS to be the largest metro area in U.S. with only that low level  of a baseball team.

Portland used to be a nice place to visit and hang out but now it's become San Francisco North or Seattle South with it's homeless, drug usage and great Socialist politics.....I have relatives that have left Portland because it has turned into a welfare sewer so now I visit them in Idaho.

Nashville or Oklahoma City would be great but being in Tornado Alley is a problem

Hopefully there will be a baseball season and the one Padre fan in Portland / Oregon will have something to cheer about

Stay Safe Brian

Keep your political commentary out of here. It not funny, insightful or relevant to baseball.

Indeed. There are plenty of outlets for political discussion. This ain't one of them.

Never mind.
