Love Bateman’s delivery and Mayfield’s path to being a possible #1 guy. With those 2 kids as teenagers would you rather deal Nett, Mendez or Baez for LF/C help? Nett is MLB ready and if he makes a couple good starts could really increase his stock.

First.....WELCOME to the Forum!

Second, personally I'm afraid to trade any of our young pitching prospects right now.

I'd almost rather deal Salas (probably just out of sight/out of mind thinking but) than arms.

Too much uncertainty in the rotation the next 2-3 years IMO.

Farm system is shallow and the best are well down the ladder ... and that normally reduces their trade value given the development risk.

I would speculate that we would not like the return in any trade of a top prospect ... probably a short term / high cost marginal fix that will soon depart and leave the organization with the same ML need and less in the farm system.

I guess that is why I have gravitated to gambling on some prospects making the ML and contribute allowing for dealing of some short term / higher cost veterans (e.g. Pivetta, Adam in the off season) and use the "saved" money to try to address the offensive shortcomings via FA (or in the trades).

For 2025 stumped since just not clear who is really available to acquire and at what price in terms of Padre players / prospects. Pretty sure some "marginal" rentals will be there ... and at a low price in terms of trade chips ... just not game changer types.

Definitely agree on the likes of Mendez and Baez not having much value for other teams. Would need a team to really fall in love with them to part with anything worthwhile.

However with the amount of guys we have and the draft coming up I’m not concerned with dealing Nett/Kolek even considering Yu may never pitch again and losing Cease/King in FA next year.

AJ is the best amateur talent evaluator in the game and I have faith in his ability to restock consistently.

id hate to lose Salas but in a deal for another C like Langelliers?

AJ can definitely restock....but we need arms that can contribute next year and beyond.

Kolek and Bergert have been a god send....but can they sustain even #4 SP production?

Nett is probably the next in line....not sure we can afford to trade him.

If we were absolutely sure Darvish and Musgrove would play a full season in 2026 that would be different.

But there's no guarantee even with the healthy arms....much less those two.

Eduarniel Nunez is in Philly.

Not sure what corresponding move is coming but need a fresh arm esp if we have a DH tomorrow

would not surprise me if Waldron is optioned ... there is a space on the 40 man to add Nunez then deal with an offset move when (if) Darvish comes off the 60 day IL.

With King and Cease gone after this year ... Pivetta gone after next year ... and Musgrove a FA after the following season ... Padres need to keep all the upper level SP prospects to cover 2026-28 ... maybe after that Bateman and Mayfield are ready (if they develop).

Padres do have long control (and low cost) on Kolek, Vasquez, and Bergert then near term Nett and Baez ... not sure after that in house. No faith in Waldron.

Hold on the SP ... try to make deals with the RP.

Actually they don't have to send down anyone now ... teams can carry a 27th player for a double header ... but that just pushes off the move until the next game.

New MLBPipeline Top 100 lists DeVries as #3 ... then consider #1 Anthony and #2 Burns are now in the ML ... DeVries may inherit the #1 spot by the end of the season!

Plus even with a wasted 2025 so far with injury, Salas is still in the #25 slot.

Right, but he was there long before the game was cancelled.

The Padres either have a tremendous meteorologist on staff or it was just coincidence.

They would have had to send him to Philly the day before the game to get him there by then.

Had to be they were making the move even w/o the rain out
