Hoeing got a rehab start in ACL ... looks as though it was just a get on the mound and throw ... don't worry about the results as he faced only four batters and gave up 3 hits (one HR) and struck out one. At least he is healthy enough to start his rehab work ... could stay on rehab for a month I believe and does have minor league options (I think).
Three prospects are off to hot starts:
- CF Roberts, LHH speedster who hit extremely well in his brief LE debut last season ... had been out with hamstring but appears ready to go to full season ball ... FW? He is "older" and LE is doing well with Wells in CF.
- Figueroa, BIG 1B with power out of a JC in the last draft ... he may stay down longer since not a big need in LE at this point
- Fountain, for now DH as he recovers from TJ ... big prospect out of HS with power but he is hitting for average so far. He may be elevated sooner than Figueroa given his projection but same is of a not a lot of room for a DH in LE baring some promotions to FW.
Still small sample sizes but encouraging.

Quirky game in San Antonio with Baez cruising until the plate umpire started squeezing him. SA manager got ejected, then Baez gave up a single that scored the only run for Frisco and then he was ejected! But in the end, the good guys win with Romeo Sanabria hitting a two out bottom of the ninth HR to win the game 2-1!
In San Jose, Storm came back from a 7-0 deficit to win in extra innings 8-7! Lot of grit shown by that team recently. Chihuahuas also looked good. On the other hand, Ft. Wayne and the ACL Padres not so much. Minors are for developing players and I think we are seeing some growth overall.

Warming to Fenn's idea of Jagger Haynes being groomed for a long RP role; his control been much better lately. There are a lot of RH RP's in the minors that are doing very well, but few LH RP.
It seems the time is right for Wandy Peralta to go on the disabled list; been hit hard lately. It seems Kyle Hart could be a better option than Wandy Peralta if another LH is needed in the pen. Long term, Padres might have to swallow the money and DFA him in hopes someone will pick him up - as of now, not likely the way he has performed lately. Also, Reynolds needs more time in the minors - bring back Morgan!

Big man Victor Figueroa off to a good start offensively but not a gazelle around 1st base with 3 errors in 5 games. Will he be the next Griffin Doersching or the next Romeo Sanabria or somewhere in between. Will have to wait until he gets to LE to get a good evaluation on him.

Mayfield came out of the game in the 2nd inning at Lake Elsinore with an unspecified arm injury - hope it is not the ACL!

Went back and looked at the footage of Mayfield's start against Fresno yesterday. Struck out the side but threw 21 pitches with 16 of them being strikes - seemed locked in and velocity was in the 92-93 range. In warm-ups for the second inning, started shrugging his left shoulder and c Duarte signaled the bench that something might be wrong. Mayfield threw one more pitch with greatly diminished velocity and Duarte immediately went to the mound and called the training staff/pitching coach in to see Mayfield. Mayfield didn't move his left shoulder at all after that 1 pitch and no further word has come down as to how serious this may be. Hopefully, it is just a minor impingement but it could go all the way to a rotator cuff problem. Undoubtedly will miss several starts and hopefully be able to come back later in the season.

ss Acuna activated from IL at San Antonio but the other corresponding move was to send c Brandon Valenzuela to Lake Elsinore. Valenzuela has been the hottest hitter for SA the last couple of weeks so this is a head-scratcher unless there is going to be another move soon involving our catchers. Stay tuned! Preller might be working on that LF deal.

Ever since his big game in April, De Vries has really looked ordinary or even less than ordinary. Started chasing pitches out of the zone, getting a lot of pop-ups, and fielding has gotten even sloppier. I hadn't heard he was an attitude problem as a player but he seems like he's not focused on his game; maybe he thinks he should have been promoted after that one big game and is in a May funk. Nonetheless, he needs to grow up and start playing like the #3 ranked player in the minors. Disappointed in what I've seen of him in May so far.
