MIN: RHP Dean Kremer(2-4, 5.40 ERA, 16 BB, -53 K, .237 BAA)
SD: RHP Casey Mize(5-7, 3.18 ERA, 25 BB, 95 K, .224 BAA)Sunday, August 23 - 1:10pm

SD: RHP Walker Buehler(7-6, 4.79 ERA, 49 BB, 104 K, .255 BAA)The Padres are coming off a disappointing series losing 2 of 3 to the Mets. The pitching was solid, but lacked offense.
I entered in Joe Musgrove for the opening pitcher because I strongly believe he will be activated. I could be wrong. If so, who would be the odd man out?
Tatis continues to prove he belongs in right field because he robbed Lindor of a grand slam.

Quote from fenn68 on August 20, 2026, 8:25 pmIn a case of over thinking ... Vasquez goes tomorrow the his next start would be Wednesday and with Thursday off the following start would be Tuesday (Sept 1).
Might the Padres try to use simulations and another rehab to get Musgrove aligned with Vasquez and activate him on Sept 1 when rosters expand?
That preserves Canning (for now for mop-up work) and keeps Morgan in EP to cover an injury call-up. When Adam is ready early to mid-Sept he is activated at Canning's expense. Morgan is still insurance in EP.
Of course never rule out an "unexpected" injury to create an earlier opportunity! Also never rule out an injury (or two) that will require backfill in September ... and want to preserve as many bodies as possible to sort out the better option(s) ... so try to avoid disposing of Canning, Giolito, etc until the last moment.

Why does this worry me?
Why? Because you've been a Padre fan for a LONG time and you know that bad pitchers OWN us!
Be interesting to see the Pads record, year after year, against pitchers who enter the game with a 4.50 ERA or greater? I'm sure it can't be very good.

Heard Asst. GM Stein this a.m. and he said Musgrove will be in SD this weekend to work with Niebla in a simulation (working on the "shapes of his pitches) then will go on another rehab next week.
Looking as though that Sept 1 activation is the plan.

Classy farewell by the Siedler family.
