Mize and Ray are examples of why GM get grey hairs ... both with track records of success before the trades and BOTH are way off their games with SD. Not sure why a successful pitcher can be this off after a trade ... one maybe but BOTH veterans. ????
For the record:
Mize before the trade 16 starts (86.2 innings) 2.70 ERA (2025 3.96 ERA) ... with Padres 9 starts (40.2 innings) 6.64 ERA.
Ray before the trade 21 starts (122.2 innings) 3.08 ERA (2025 3.65 ERA) ... with Padres 8 starts (39.2 innings) 5.22 ERA.
no small sample sizes here ... so?

Yeah, both of them being chunky is totally bizarre, especially Ray. Being in the NL West for so long, it should have been an easy/easier transition for Ray than Mize.

With Pivetta back and Buehler pitching so well thankfully we may not need these two in the playoffs.
At least not as Starters or until the longer Series start.
I could see Ray being valuable out of the Pen esp if you need 3+ innings.
IMO Mize shouldn't pitch at all unless a blowout or keep off the roster altogether.
