The Padres have won 10 of their last 11 games with 9 games left to go. They are 1 game behind the Cubs and Phillies for the top wild card spot and home field advantage, and are 4 games ahead of the Dbacks.
The Padres swept the Marlins last July in Miami. Can they do it again here at Petco Park? The Padres home record is 45-29 and the Marlins road record is 32-44.
Not saying it is going to happen, but if the Padres sweep the Marlins, and the Dbacks are swept by the Yankees, the Padres will clinch a playoff berth.
The Padres will need to go 6-3 in their final 9 games to reach 90 wins.

Looks like something went wrong with the matchup previews.
I'm guessing Andujar will be activated and replace Song today. I'm interested to see how Stammen uses everyone with him back. Harris and Hays have formed a very effective platoon. Taylor has also continued to play well. Andujar might have a much less regular role than he did earlier in the season. I think there's a case to be made for giving Tatis more time at 2B to keep the hot bats in the lineup. Cronenworth had a nice series in Colorado. It's been a struggle for him offensively most of the year though. Regardless there will be solid bats on the bench every night. A nice problem to have.
Adam should be back soon too. I expect they'll give him another rehab outing since his last one didn't go great. I think he'll be back for the Dodgers series at the latest though. With Canning pitching well lately it could be Morgan who gets sent out.

Tonight and the weekend series could be huge. A win tonight eliminates MIA. Then, depending on how this weekend plays in SD and AZ, it could really give SD some breathing room for the upcoming DBack series.
If SD goes 2-1, and AZ goes 1-2, gives SD a 6 game lead with six games to play. Almost unsurmountable. As much as it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, really have to root for the NYY this weekend.

With a 4 game lead if we match the DBacks record ahead of the final series they can't catch us. We would be able to setup the rotation the way we want to and decide how aggressive we want to be in potentially pursuing a higher seed depending on how the Cubs and Phillies play. We've got a real shot at the 4 seed and home field advantage in the wild card round.

Both the Cubs and Phillies lost. Padres have an opportunity to move in a 3-way too wild card spot for home field advantage with a win tonight.

The Padres win and have moved into a 3-way tie for the top spot in the wild card race. The Dbacks lost dropping them to 5 games back.
The Padres magic number is now 4.
Pivetta was outstanding. Machado and Salas are the only Padres not to get a hit. Bogaerts has surprisingly come alive.
Let's take game 2. Mize on the mound.
