Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres: August 22-24
Quote from MrPadre19 on August 24, 2025, 7:04 amBeating Snell & Glasnow with Yu & Nestor says a lot.
Plus LA is pretty much at full strength other than Edman & Muncy.
Us being w/o King & Merrill is a bigger loss IMO

Quote from Randy Manese on August 24, 2025, 8:47 amDodgers fans have to feel frustrated because they got two very good SP performances out of Snell and Glasnow but the Padres still managed to scrape by with even superior performances by Darvish and Cortes. Even though the bullpen showed a couple of cracks with Miller's walks and Suarez' traffic in the 8th and 9th, respectively, of the first game and Estrada's HR allowed yesterday, the Padres offense and their bullpen still supported the SP with only 1 run given up over the first two games - that is true grit.
We've hit Yamamoto well in the past but he is much improved this year. Pivetta has got to not get too amped and pitch a smart game because those Dodgers hitters, especially at the top of the order, are going to be hunting his FB and if he catches too much of the plate with it, could mean an early exit. Here's hoping that Pivetta has got all his pitches working and the sequencing serves him well. Nothing like a sweep of the Dodgers to complete a wonderful weekend of baseball. GO PADRES!

Quote from fenn68 on August 24, 2025, 9:19 amany guess who the Padres have recalled to replace Merrill ... put on the 10 day IL (retro to Aug 20th)?
Likely someone on the 40 man (just for 5-6 games) ... and the current line-up looks to be "stable" so not a lot playing time expected ... even not much of call for a PH. Have Johnson to sub in the OF ... have Iglesias to sub in the INF ... have Diaz to sub at C ... so what might be the biggest insurance need?
Ornelas(L) ... Wagner (L) ... Campusano ... McCoy are the options.

Quote from Randy Manese on August 24, 2025, 10:19 amNot surprised it's not Wade because of the short period of time before Merrill comes back. However, if Wade does come back in September in the manner indicated, he would not be eligible for the post-season unless there was an injury. Wade does bring an additional vibe to the clubhouse and I think the players would love to see him back for the home stretch - agree that McCoy is probably on his way out.

Quote from fenn68 on August 24, 2025, 11:45 amIn retrospect Wagner is the logical choice NOW. Of the four using wRC+ for the this ML season:
86 ... 132 PA ... Wagner (L)
-6 ... 27 PA ... Campusano
-14 .. 16 PA ... Ornelas (L)
-100 . 5 PA ... McCoy
At least has the ML exposure in 2025 with some production ... it is not the time to experiment.
Wade was seriously slumping when he was DFA and even if added would have to be DFA again since he has no minor league options as I recall. Padres may try to re-sign him to a minor league deal for 2026 ... Padres as of now are short of any experienced options.
McCoy might hang around since he can play legit SS since there should be no roster crunch this winter ... see what (when) the Padres can land as a better option. McCoy is > and vacant roster spot and low cost.
