Likely someone on the 40 man (just for 5-6 games) ... and the current line-up looks to be "stable" so not a lot playing time expected ... even not much of call for a PH. Have Johnson to sub in the OF ... have Iglesias to sub in the INF ... have Diaz to sub at C ... so what might be the biggest insurance need?

Ornelas(L) ... Wagner (L) ... Campusano ... McCoy are the options.

Not surprised it's not Wade because of the short period of time before Merrill comes back.  However, if Wade does come back in September in the manner indicated, he would not be eligible for the post-season unless there was an injury.  Wade does bring an additional vibe to the clubhouse and I think the players would love to see him back for the home stretch - agree that McCoy is probably on his way out.

At least has the ML exposure in 2025 with some production ... it is not the time to experiment.

Wade was seriously slumping when he was DFA and even if added would have to be DFA again since he has no minor league options as I recall. Padres may try to re-sign him to a minor league deal for 2026 ... Padres as of now are short of any experienced options.

McCoy might hang around since he can play legit SS since there should be no roster crunch this winter ... see what (when) the Padres can land as a better option. McCoy is > and vacant roster spot and low cost.
