Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres: June 9-11

When you have pitchers that are shutting down a tough team like the Dodgers, why not let then stay in for more than one inning.  Shildt bringing in LHP Peralta against 3 straight righties does not make sense. Suarez should have been left in for a second inning. He has before. IMO, Schildt mismanaged this game and it cost the Padres.

Also, bad call by the ump and a couple of costly errors by the Padres.

They need to take game 2.

GO PADRES!

It was a very sloppy defensive game. 2 errors and 3 misplays. It's hard enough to beat a team like The Dodgers without giving them extra chances.

Our infield defense is starting to get slightly concerning. Manny is still making some of the spectacular plays we're accustomed to, but he's also leading the league in errors. Bogaerts has been double clutching throws and struggling with transfers all season. It's almost like he's got a mild case of the yips. He's ranging well to get to balls. It seems like something is off mentally when it comes time to get rid of the ball. Arraez is living up to his defensive reputation. There were also clearly some communication issues last night. I keep thinking it'll get better with a veteran infield of guys who with the exception of Arraez have typically been good defensively. So far it hasn't.

Yep.....infield defense was supposed to be a strong point

Game 2 Lineup
1. Tatis RF
2. Arraez 1B
3. Machado 3B
4. Merrill CF
5. Sheets DH
6. Bogaerts  SS
7. Cronenworth 2B
8. Wade LF
9. Maldonado C

Cease P

The Padres take game 2. They remain in 3rd place 1/2 game behind the Giants, but obly a game behgind the Dodgers.

Padres fans, you have just witness Cease's best performance of the season. He was outstanding and locked in. He stepped it up when the team needed it shutting out the Dodgers and striking out 11 in 7 IP.

The offense has come alive this series when the Padres really needed it and the defense was much better.

The Padres can take the series in the rubber match tomorrow afternoon.

GO PADRES!

Cease pitching like an Ace? Yes please! And I'll have more of the same!

Totally different team tonight. Good home win for the Friars.

Game 3 Lineup

2. Arraez 1B
3. Machado 3B
4. Merrill CF
5. Sheets LF
6. Bogaerts  DH
7. Cronenworth 2B
8. Iglesias SS
9. Maldonado C

Vásquez P - I hope he steps it up like Cease did.

Dodgers are going with another BP game instead of Wrobleski. Casparius(4-1, 2.93 ERA, 44 K, 2.17 BAA) will start the game. Wrobleski might come in later like Sauer.

IMO, Schildt mismanaged the pitching. There was no reason to take out Vasquez, who only gave up 1 run on only 2 hits.  This is a series that could have been won. The offense did have opportunities and couldn't get it done. The Padres are 2 games back, remain in 3rd place and are 31-29 since going 7-0.

On to Arizona.

GO PADRES!
