Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres: June 9-11

My two takes from this game, first, If I am not mistaken, Estrada and Adam have had bad outings when they don't pitch in their normal inning, Estrada the 7th, Adam the 8th, second, Tatis and Machado have to stop forcing things, one time each, were in a situation with the bases loaded and a pitcher out of control, and instead of talking a pitch, they took a swing at not to ideal pitches.

They had predetermined if close he wouldn’t go 3 times thru the order is my opinion.

Tough to lose the series…gotta beat the team(s) ahead of you.

Man, bullpen games are our kryptonite! 2 of the last 3 times the Duds have done that, we've scored 2 runs total! ( I guess last nights victory was a bullpen game but Sauer threw over 100 pitches i.e. he was in there a loooooong time so not really the same)

IMO, Schildt mismanaged the pitching. There was no reason to take out Vasquez, who only gave up 1 run on only 2 hits.  This is a series that could have been won. The offense did have opportunities and couldn't get it done. The Padres are 2 games back, remain in 3rd place and are 31-29 since going 7-0.

On to Arizona.

GO PADRES!

Schildt's teams are known for finishing strong, especially playing well after the All-Star break.  If Yu & King can come back strong, we find a LF that can hit we should be fine.  I would like to see Schildt and Niebla trust the starters to take more of the load and let them go an inning or two longer, so the pen won't be so worn down thru what we all hope is a long playoff run.  Go Pads!

You could make a case for leaving Vasquez in. I liked seeing Shildt be aggressive with the bullpen. That's the strength of the team and with the blowout win the day before and the off day today he didn't need to worry about workload. Morejon couldn't snag Freeman's ball and Estrada gave up the bomb after the walk. Sometimes a manager can make sound choices and still have it not work out. That's baseball. It's easy to judge in hindsight. I'm not mad about it.

The real point of yesterdays game is, you have to/should score more runs when a team runs a bullpen day. Sure SD gave up 5 yesterday, and it probably should have been 3. All that is irrelevant since the offense couldn't muster more than 2 anyway.

We really need more production from LF, and Tatis is struggling right now. Get a better stick in LF and Tatis bounces back, and we win yesterdays game and a couple others.

And then we are sitting in 1st place right now.

The Giants lost to the Rockies.
