LAD series: 2021
Quote from MrPadre19 on April 18, 2021, 4:47 pmBoy we needed that!
I was just about to come and say that I never would have believed that our weak links are Pham and Tatis.
Our offense has been Hosmer,Crone,Myers and Manny.
Grisham has been good and Profar OK....but man do we need to get FTJ and Pham going.
Maybe by next weekend?
😉

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 18, 2021, 4:49 pmBrewers pitching is gonna be tough....their top 2 just as good as the Dodgers.
I hope we can get at least 1 of the first 2 then also get game 3.

Pretty amazing and eventful Series against the Dodgers and almost no comments.

Quote from 3fingersplit on April 19, 2021, 7:11 amI agree Mr P.....it seems like there are maybe 10 people who even bother to comment and they must be out of juice from this series.
The vibe in the stadium was awesome and for only having 15,000 of us there....it was loud. When this gets opened up and it has 45,000 +...the place will be rocking.
The Series.....The Dodgers are very good and will be better when they get Bellinger back....The Padres are very good and will be better when they get Lamet and Nola back.....The last three days were playoff baseball in April in San Diego and the baseball world was watching and certainly not disappointed....the games had everything.......Great Pitching (Both teams ), Clutch Hitting ( HOSMER is a beast and smoking hot right now), Defense ( Mookie Betts made it a the longest 25 minute drive home in a long time....ugh ) and then you had the benches onto the field chippy part that was perfect because nobody got hurt, nobody got ejected and was actually funny.....Kershaw yelling at Profar " That was a Bull$hirt swing" was classic, he didn't say shirt either :)....I was laughing my ass off because he was right BUT Profar is a smart guy and he read the scouting report on Barnes the catcher......always reaching.....Catcher Interference was absolutly the right call......even though the swing was uh.....late 😉
Dodgers 2 - Padres 1 in the season series so far with a four game series this coming weekend in LA.....what a great thing for baseball.
Go Padres !!!

Quote from BoosterSD on April 19, 2021, 7:11 amI think this series shows that we are still just a bit behind the LADs. Their bats just seam a little better than ours. Of course we are not at full strength yet. Nola not back yet. Nola would have helped versus Kershaw on Saturday IMO. Missing Lamet. Great game by Weathers IMO.
Tatis, there is still something not right. Not even talking about his throw to 2nd on Friday, a couple of his routine throws had to be picked by Hosmer. Hosmer, his bat is in a good spot right now. Didnt like the way he handle what I thought was an easy grounder on Friday.
All in all, good showing over the weekend. We were in all 3 games, and never lost hope after falling behind. And while LAD is 13-3, 7 of the first 16 games have been against the Rox, and they are not very good.
So, in summary, we are closer to LAD than I think we have been in years.

Quote from WindsorUK on April 19, 2021, 8:37 amI was able to catch the last 2 innings of yesterday's game, and believe me, I was quite shocked that someone other than Hosmer was able to drive in a run!
I'm with Booster, in that the Duds are still the better team. How they're able to keep pulling guys from their system that are able to come in and contribute from the opening pitch, is just astounding. Mckistry? A 33rd round pick? Really?
At some point, OUR position players are going to have to step up. Whether it be Marcano or Campusano this year or next, Abrams in a year or 2, Hassell or Mears in 3 years.....SOMEBODY has to come up and just produce.
Deals like Cron for Renfroe, and Grisham for Urias are great but without them we have major holes. We were fortunate.
Hopefully our young kids will be ready to step in when the current guys go. If they can, THEN we'll have that SoCal rivalry we've all been hoping for. Still, it's great to hear about the playoff intensity and atmosphere in April. Hopefully we go North next weekend and take 3 out of 4.

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 19, 2021, 8:54 amI don’t think the Dodgers are that much ahead of us.
Either team could have swept the other if not for a few inches here(Betts catch) or one throw there (Tatis to 2nd).
They've been fortunate that they have faced the Rockies twice already.
Now we get Milw. but have to face Woodfruff and Burnes.
It’s been more circumstance to start the season than ability IMO.

Quote from WindsorUK on April 19, 2021, 9:12 amWoodruff and Burnes are good pitchers?
I'm hoping that after yesterday afternoons big knock, Pham will get on a roll, Myers and Grisham will come back healthy, Machado and Hosmer continue to hit, and Tatis can start putting together an error-less game streak.
Our pitching has been OUTSTANDING! I'm just worried that Tingler might wear our pen out before summer is over. You guys know far more than I do about the coming and goings of players from MLB to MiLB, but I can't imagine there's an endless number of moves you can make to keep your staff fresh? Here's hoping our front line guys get into a groove of going 6+ more days than not AND guys like Crismatt, Strahm, Weathers and even Pomeranz ( all former starters) can go long if called upon. I guess I'm just not a fan who enjoys 5 pitchers covering the last 4 innings every day. EVERY pitcher in a MLB pen should be able to go through a lineup at least once.

I'm with you, Mr. P. We SHOULD have won Game 1; taken 2 of 3. RIGHT there all 3 games. Those games were actually BETTER than hyped, which I didn't think was possible.
Where the LAD really have us is SP quality & depth. BUT IF Lamet is really healthy/good to go, that balance shifts, as it would if: 1) Snell can get closer to Cy Young winner than Avg MLB #4 SP, and 2) Morejon can dodge a bullet with the Forearm strain. Both teams missing key players, and some just back of IL (Tatis, Graterol), but Pads even more gimpy: Pom, Myers, Grisham.
If they have a chink in their armor relatively it's their Bullpen. But Joe Kelly on IL, and Graterol just came back.
FWIW way too early on Roster Resource: the only 1 of 18 categories (6 hitting, same 6 SP & RP) Pads are NOT in the top half is: SP BB/9: 17th (... Snell). LAD are 19th or worse in 4 of the 18 : Stolen Bases-25th, and 3 of 6 RP categories... just hasn't mattered b/c their SP & Offense have been so dominant.
Regulars in Top 100 SP in Top 50 RP in Top 100
PADS: 6! All but: C, Tatis, Pham but + Profar 2 (Darvish, Musgrove top 15) 5: MM, Pom, Pagan, Kela, Stammen!
LAD: 4 : Betts, Seager, Turner, Muncy 4 (All but Urias) 4: Jansen, Treinen, V. Gonzalez, J. Nelson
