LAD series: 2021

He giveth and he taketh away.

Ugh!

And then another stinkin throwing error. WTFriday is up with his throwing this season?

Trying to do too much.

Making that play saved a run....making that throw cost us two.

Should have just held it....

Caratini pinch hits for the pitcher.....tell me he’s gonna go in for Campy?

Prefer his defense plus he hasn’t already caught 8 innings.

Weathers did pitch effectively ... little doubt in my mind he is on the cusp of being a regular SP. 79 pitches is a good load ... but did not go 4 innings. Have to consider it was the LAD though ... will be more informative when he goes against “normal” teams.

In the short run ... probably returns to long relief UNLESS Lamet is not ready to be activated or the Padres want to give him a few relief appearances before taking a starting role for Morejon. Paddack probably gets another start or two to lock in a starting role but if he faulters ... Weathers may get his shot ... early May?

Padres really need Nola to get healthy and return .... Campusano is not ML ready offensively or defensively. Campusano wasn’t on the same page as Snell the other day and was not on the same page as Weathers yesterday ... that rough on the pitcher trying to keep in rhythm.

Shows a bit of the misleading performance evaluation based on ST / minor leagues .... ML regular season presents a big difference in quality opposition.

Tatis????????

6 games .... 7 errors (3 fielding - 4 throwing). Plus, a lot of his throws have been erratic to 1B ... but caught high - low - left - right.

I can look past the poor offensive stats to start the season and six games but defense is the aspect of the game that should have some consistency. Combine the number of errors with them being fielding and throwing and have to be concerned.

Can speculate on the cause but correcting the situation should be the objective. Clearly in 2020 his defense was very good and a major improvement over his marginal defense in 2019.

Are there currently any veteran catchers on the 40 man that aren't in SD( Rivas)?

Maybe give them a shot until Nola returns( which still seems awhile away)?

None on the 40 man. Rivas is likely the only option in the Padres’ system.

The projected return of Nola is ... at best ... vague. Last I heard (and not necessarily accurate) was that he was in SD working on rehab and will soon head to the alternate site for the needed game work. Not sure the interpretation of “soon” in this case or the number of rehab games since he has been out for about a month. May 1?

Not sure I would make a roster move to add Rivas now and for only 1-2 weeks until Nola returns (might have done earlier ... just not now). Caratini probably will be getting more work until Nola returns.

I made it until the Tatis strikeout in the 10th.

It was 2:30 am

Figured if we held them in the 11th we would win with Tatis at 2nd and Machado/Hosmer/Myers coming up.

But I also figured if they scored in the top of the inning it was over.....unfortunately I was right.

Ugh!

2 of 3 would be glorious but if not....let’s take tomorrow and knock Bauer out in the 3rd inning!
