LAD @ Padres

Pads website shows Davies for game 2, which is logical, but Tingler "wouldn't commit" to that?  Why wouldn't they?  Playing games?

Probably because he does not have to. Possible debating how to set up the rotation for the rest of the season ... so until that is settled no commitment.

However, Davis on Tuesday does make the most sense since that already puts him on 5 days rest (one more than normal) and lagging him to Wednesday to have him go with 6 days rest may not work well for a pitcher that lives on command and and a change-up.

With an off day on Thursday .... Wednesday is good for an all in bullpen day (especially if Lamet and Davies go deep in the first two games).

So I posted this in the Giants Padres thread but it fits so much better here.......

So the Dodgers have been proclaimed the best team in baseball this year and guess what ?

The Padres are 2.5 games behind in the NL West and have the 3rd best record in all of Major League Baseball with the Dodgers coming into Petco for a 3 game series....how cool would it be for the Dodgers to leave San Diego in 2nd place in the NL West ?

I love the fact that it has been SOOOOO long since my Padres have actually played games that mattered in Mid September....this should be a fun series and for the first time in a long time I get the feeling that the Padres actually match up with the Dodgers and like the fact the Dodgers can hurt you anywhere in the batting order if the pitcher makes a mistake so can the Padres and SD has the rotation and bullpen that can hold the Dodgers in check.

I know I'll be wearing my home whites for the next three days 🙂

Go Pads !!!

While winning the Division would be incredibly cool I'm just gonna enjoy the next two weeks and the Playoffs no matter the outcome.

Winning the Division isn't the goal right now anyway.

As it sits today(likely to change) we would open against the Marlins(I think) and I'm not sure opening against anyone else would be better?

I'd certainly rather play the fish than the Phils or the Cards.

For us to win the division we would have to continue to win just about every game the rest of the way considering how the Dodgers are playing...if it happens it will be incredible, but if not I am just so happy to be playing meaningful games in September...along with knowing this team will be intact for several more years to come.

Go Padres!

If Kershaw goes today, as expected, may be too difficult a return to regular playing time for Pham to be activated.  May see him later in the week.  At best, he would DH, putting Moreland on the bench and Nola at 1b against Kershaw with Castro behind the plate again; Moreland still looks very shaky against lefties.  Mejia is already eligible to be activated but Campusano is not.  We shall see!  Don't think we'll see much of Almonte, Ona or Allen this series.  Go Padres!

FUNKY SD lineup, but makes sense after a doubleheader, so not every position player playing 23 innings in 32 hours or whatever...

LAD no lineup, but looks like Pads really assuming it's Kershaw:

Tatis, Machado, Nola, Myers (1-4 RH), Cronenworth (L) - 1B, Profar (S) - LF, Ona - DH, Mateo -2B (first game in INF?), Grisham-L

Thinking they maybe hold off on the Pham, Campusano?, Austin Adams? moves till after the series?  "Re-set" with the off day?

These are great points.  In a way, it couldn't matter "less".  But that's not how I feel.  They have been sitting there for SO long as top dog that I would like nothing more than to take them down a notch.  Remember the last 4 game series @ LAD in August?  We took first two, start to think we've "arrived", then lose the next two:  6-0, 11-2.  Same old, same old.

I agree THIS season, with all the unique weirdness AND the standings the way they are, the outcome doesn't matter that much, but it is a HUGE series psychologically for both teams.  Possible appetizer for playoffs in '20 & now one of biggest rivalries in MLB next season; very important "tone setter".

Chris Paddack out preparing for a bullpen session. Eric Hosmer running on the field wearing batting gloves and no splint on index finger.

Observation ... and this could have gone either way:

Profar starts in LF while Mateo starts at 2B.

A positive for Profar’s defense in LF or a negative about Profar’s defense at 2B? Reverse that on Mateo.

Could be just that Profar has established himself in LF and why mess with that.

Don’t get me wrong....beating the Dodgers is “always” a good thing and winning the Division would be incredible.

But to be disappointed if it doesn’t happen after this incredible turnaround in one year wouldn’t be right either.

We’ve won 7 in a row and it would have to be 10 to take over first place.

Could it happen....sure,but it’s a tall task and I’m just not gonna let myself be disappointed if we “only” end up with the 2nd best record in the entire League after a 90 loss season last year.

Thats all I’m saying...
