From today's DFR ...

Sod Poodles Notes:  LHP Adrian Morejon is in Amarillo and throwing.  According to Padres’ minor league pitching coordinator Eric Junge, who is with the Sod Poodles, Morejon has not experienced any recurrence of the shoulder pain that sidelined him, but the organization has also not set a date for his return to the mound. … Miguel Diaz, who has been on the big league disabled list since early in spring training, is expected to join Amarillo for a rehab assignment beginning Sunday. The right-handed reliever was moved to the 60-day disabled list last week to make room on the 40-man roster. The organization will have 21 days to get him ready on his assignment.

Padres placed C Francisco Mejia on the 10-day injured list with a left knee sprain.

I'm hoping this explains the very slow start ...

Goes further in explaining his declining defense. Which was average to slightly above to begin the year.

Any one have an update on Ryan Weathers?  I thought I read that he would be back quickly, but apparently that isn't the case...

It's been 12 days. He's throwing, sounds like he bounced back well after his bullpens. Would guess he's activated very soon. That IS quickly.

From today's DFR ...

RHP Miguel Diaz made his third rehab outing and earned the win, pitching five innings. Diaz allowed three earned runs and struck out five. As Diaz’s allotted time for rehab winds down, he could be in line to get a crack at the big league roster soon.

• Outfielder Franchy Cordero is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso on Friday as he recovers from a stress reaction in his right elbow. The Padres dearly miss Cordero's left-handed bat as a platoon option in the outfield -- specifically in center.

Cordero has received more than 20 at-bats at extended spring, and Green noted that his progression to the big leagues might be quick. It depends, Green said, on how fast he regains his timing at the plate.

• Utility man Jose Pirela began his rehab assignment with El Paso on Wednesday. He's been out since April 21 with a strained left oblique.

Heard that Castillo will begin a rehab assignment shortly (on the 60 day IL).

Lamet (on the 60 day IL) is already on his rehab assignment.

That could mean that in about a month the Padres will have to open 2 slots on the 40 man roster. One likely is Pirela the other one will be a question. That dilemma just makes it harder for the Padres to add a non-roster player in the short run (e.g. L.Allen). Would think Wieck, G.Reyes, Maton, Avila are in the high risk zone for DFA at that point.
