Hamels is throwing bullpens in Arizona.

Padres have just sent Campusano on a rehab assignment to ACL.

Suarez is already rehabbing in the ACL and Rosario is rehabbing at EP.

All three are currently on the 60 day IL and should end the rehabs by the end of the month (before the trade deadline). So the Padres are getting near decisions on three 40 man roster players that will have to be DFA (or traded) to accommodate the three returning.

Are we really sure? It has been about 3+ months since the Padres in ST suggested he would go to AZ to get back into shape for a "mid-season" return. We are there and no reports from the Padres at all ... no sightings in a rehab appearance in AZ.

IF there was any though of Hamels helping down the stretch ... that seems more distant given the radio silence.

IF he is still around, Padres are paying him, wonder if they have an agreement with him for 2024?

Saw a video of him throwing one the day I posted that. I haven't seen anything since. The reports from the start were that he was unlikely to be ready until summer. Maybe we'll find out more soon. I look at him more as a lotto ticket than someone to actually be counted on. His deal pays him 2m for major league time. I don't think he's getting anything more than a minimal payment while he rehabs.

Knehr to have TJ surgery ending his 2023 and likely his 2024.

There is the 60 IL move to clear space on the 40 man for Wolf.

In a Melvin interview he indicated that Jacob looks to out a long time but no surgery required. Apparently there was some indication of an issue while he was still in the minors.

Wacha does not appear progressing to make the August 1 start (next need for #5 SP) ... maybe the following one. Not sure Wolf is eligible to be recalled (needs 10 days in minors) so maybe we see Weathers again or Avila just gets the shot. It is in COLO, so not going to be a great exposure for whichever prospect gets the shot.

Soto has had a problem with one of his fingers on his right hand for some time ... we have seen the issue show up in some of his swing and misses as he shows the pain.

Apparently the Padres are using the off day to give Soto a MRI ... no speculation on the outcome.

I can't help but feel that's a sign of the white flag. They dragged their feet on this for a month thinking that wins were right around the corner. Now, after dropping 2 of 3 to one of the worst teams in the big leagues, they have no choice but to finally face reality.

Are there any implications here on the trade deadline? To me, it seemingly confirms they're absolutely holding onto Soto (not that many of us suspected otherwise).

Agree they are holding on Soto BUT for those of us who like to look at all scenarios (even the unlikely) maybe the MRI is to give some buying team a clear view of Soto's health before closing the deal.

Alternatively if the MRI suggests Soto is to the IL ... does that make the Padres more aggressive buyers of more offense help OR, as you suggest, go into sell mode.

Wilson to IL (hip) … might explain his very bad recent performance after a strong early season.

Kerr called up.
