Injury Updates

From today's DFR ...

Lefthander Drew Pomeranz was removed from his scheduled appearance and left El Paso before the game. It was later reported that Pomeranz suffered a neck strain.

From today's DFR ...

Joe Musgrove cruised through the first five innings of the opener in what should be his final rehab appearance before rejoining the big league club. After three perfect frames, Inland Empire got the leadoff runner on thanks to an error in the fourth, but Musgrove promptly picked him off. In the fifth, he allowed a pair of singles before striking out his seventh and eighth batters of the day. Having cruised on just 55 pitches to that point, Musgrove went back out for the sixth, but gave up four straight singles – only one of them hit particularly hard.

Crismatt to the IL … hip

Kerr (LHRP) called up.

In the spirit of you can never have enough pitching over the course of a full season ... the Crismatt "injury" may be a strategically good thing.

Yes, he has been horrible this season BUT he is only 28, low cost, and his 2022 (and 2021) were productive at the ML level. There will be injuries (and under performance) within the pitching staff during the season and although we would like to see an unproven prospect develop there is no guarantee (and actually seeing no one tearing up AAA out of the pen.

Crismatt is out of options so the IL stint gives the Padres some control while he is on the IL (and probably a 30 day rehab for pitchers) during witch they can try to get him to his 2022 form while he serves as a veteran insurance policy. Probably easier to get him through waivers coming off an IL stint (and a poor start) than just a poor start. He then is insurance in AAA.

Dixon to AAA

Tatis added to 40 and 26

SUAREZ to the 60 day IL... so out til mid June at least

From today's DFR ...

With the game locked at 2-1, Drew Pomeranz made his second rehab appearance of the week, working a very quick sixth inning as he got acclimated to coming into a game with a lead to protect. The big lefty tossed just 10 pitches to get a pop fly, flyout, and grounder to short.

Rather than sit down and then have to get heated back up for a second inning, Pomeranz went back down the first base line and tossed another 15 pitches in the bullpen. His velocity sat in the low-90s as he worked off the rust, but Pomeranz looked healthy, which is clearly the biggest question mark after he missed all of last season.

Pomeranz shut down again after discomfort in his arm after his last rehab start.

Any lingering hope of him return to the Padres and being a plus factor in the pen is fading.

Engel activated ... Azocar to 10 day IL.

Timely IL since today was the last day of Engel's rehab. Engel was not good in EP ... but we will see how well he rides the bench.

Pomeranz has been sent on a new rehab in EP ... joins Castillo who is also rehabbing.

We could be seeing Azocar rehabbing in EP soon if his elbow swelling has subsided ... Liberato just went on the IL and EP (nor SA) have a supply of OF who can handle CF (and hit).

Saw on Twitter that Eguy Rosario is back in action in extended spring training.
