Does anyone ever report “unsuccessful” surgery? What constitutes “successful” … patient did not die? Surgeon got paid?

Bob Melvin said reliever Drew Pomeranz is probably not going to pitch this season.

I guess I missed this last month ... Austin Adams who has been on the 60 IL due to an injury early in the season and flexor tendon surgery on Aug 5. Similar to what Pomeranz hand last year.
All players do not recover at the same pace but using Pomeranz' recovery as a guideline ... Adams is not likely to be a factor in 2023.
Adams is already 31 and has only 2 years more of control (the first would be on the 60 day IL ... so not clogging up a roster spot except during the winter). Not going to be a big salary (about $1MM) but I could see the Padres non-tender him this winter given that he probably would not be a long term Padre.

Per Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Padres reliever Robert Suarez is expected to begin the 2023 campaign on the injured list with arm stiffness and joint inflammation. An MRI revealed no structural damage, but the right-hander has remained shut down since March 12 nonetheless.

RHP Dylan Lesko, the Padres’ top selection in the 2022 draft, threw off the mound for the first time this spring. Lesko, 19, had Tommy John surgery last April and is still far from pitching against competition. Still, he looked good and told us that there have been no setbacks. .. Lefty Jagger Haynes, 20, a fifth-round pick in the truncated 2020 draft, also looked solid in his bullpen session. The North Carolina prep missed most of his senior year to COVID and all of 2021 and 2022 to Tommy John surgery. Coming out of the draft, the 6-foot-3 lefty was considered one of the more projectable pitchers in the class. The North Carolina native is the last of the five drafted players left with the organization

April 11: LHP Drew Pomeranz (left flexor tendon surgery) to begin rehab stint
Pomeranz's rehab assignment will begin Thursday at Triple-A El Paso, after the veteran left-hander threw another successful live session over the weekend at the team's spring complex in Peoria, Ariz.
It's unclear how long a rehab stint will last for Pomeranz. He's a lefty bullpen option the Padres could desperately use. But he also hasn't pitched since undergoing surgery in August 2021.
"He just wants to get back and pitch as quickly as he can," manager Bob Melvin said. "So do you build him up for a long period of time with some of the injuries he's had? Or do you get his bullets here as soon as you can? I think we're still kind of discussing that. I know if it were up to him, he's felt like he's had enough of [the buildup] probably to where it's sooner than later. But we'll see."
