Quote from Henry Silvestre on July 8, 2022, 12:39 pmQuote from fenn68 on July 8, 2022, 12:26 pmPadres update on Profar:
1. Concussion (so I think that means an automatic 7 day IL in this day and age)
2. Cervical (neck) strain … this is the wild card and could be minor (early return) or not minor (season ending) … more evaluation is necessary.
I would expect the Padres extend Profar’s IL through the All-Star break (just an extra 3 games lost) but safer for Profar’s health even if the cervical strain is mild giving him about 14 days off.
What's your move Myers to IL 60 Ruiz to 40... or Rooker up no move needed...based on Profars table setter type ..I am leaning Ruiz..you?

Since Myers looks to be returning right after the All-Star break … moving him to the 60 day is only a short term move.
I would do Ruiz over Rooker and bite the bullet on a DFA … probably off the RP corps since looking like Morejon is close to returning to the 26 sooner than later. Preller may be already on the phones trying to deal someone off the 40 man to avoid the DFA route but putting on RP on the waivers should get multiple claims and then result in a minor trade.

P Contreras(40) +OF Rooker(40) for Benentendi ... sounds good right about now

Me too. Curious about what the NYY might be offering (at least rumored to be interested) as they want to upgrade LF and LHH.

Saw a comment that Whit Merrifield may be in play and of interest to the Padres. Not having a great year but only about $4.5MM AAV and under control in 2023. Bet on a rebound? The $1.5MM toward CBT would not hard to be covered with a small move.

Whit hasn't been Whit for a few seasons.. I dont know how much of an upgrade he would be...sure his leadership/playing for a winner etc.. might wake his bat up a little.. but this Whit version is not too exciting

Quote from Randy Manese on July 8, 2022, 2:07 pmConcur on bringing up Ruiz for a pre-All star break trial. Other option would be Rooker, but Rooker is not a good OF. Could designate another pitcher or put Myers on the 60 to get that 40-man spot. Ruiz has cooled a little but still brings a dynamic that we are missing on the roster IF he can get on base.

Quote from LynchMob on July 10, 2022, 7:17 amJuly 9: RHP Dinelson Lamet recalled; RHP Craig Stammen placed on IL
The one player on the Padres’ 40-man roster who was not acquired by A.J. Preller is back in the big leagues. Lamet was called up from Triple-A El Paso as Stammen headed to the 15-day injured list because of right shoulder inflammation.Lamet, who will turn 30 on July 18, signed with the Padres as an international free agent in June 2014, about two months before Preller was hired as general manager. The righty developed into a top-notch starter with a wipeout slider and finished fourth in the 2020 NL Cy Young Award voting. But he had Tommy John surgery along the way and had elbow issues recur toward the end of the ’20 season. Lamet opted for platelet-rich plasma therapy instead of more surgery and ultimately was moved to the bullpen.
Lamet posted a 9.72 ERA in 10 appearances with the Padres in the early weeks of the 2022 season and was optioned to the Minors to give him more time to regain his form. He posted a 2.16 ERA across 15 outings with Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A El Paso and struck out 24 of the 75 batters he faced.
“Lamet’s been a talented guy,” Padres manager Bob Melvin said. “It’s been humbling for him to have to go back to development, but I know he’s excited about being back here again. When this guy’s right, he’s awfully good.”
Melvin said there are no restrictions on how he’ll be able to use Lamet out of the bullpen, including back-to-back days. Lamet did not pitch on back-to-back days during his recent seven-week stay in the Minors. -- Shaun O’Neill

Quote from fenn68 on July 11, 2022, 3:50 amOther than some vague reports that the injured pitchers are “throwing” … any better information on how intense their work is … none yet ticketed for rehab games except for Morejon?
Pomeranz, Johnson, Suarez, Stammen, Wilson are in limbo but with the All-Star break (and that also is reflected in minor league games I think) possible that they don’t go to rehab until post All-Star for a couple appearances and be ready for return just before the trade deadline.
IF all are on track to return … going to be a logjam at the end of the month. What is the prognosis of some of the injured not being ready to return in that timeframe?
