Quote from fenn68 on May 28, 2021, 3:51 pm1/3 of the way through the season and the injuries are out of hand:
10 players are now on the 60 day IL
3 players are on the ML 10 day IL (Pomeranz, Grisham, Nola)
2 players on the 40 man are on the minor league IL (so far all season) (Humphreys, Lawson).
Machado is active but not playing (DH tonight) for pushing a week
Plus lest we forget Tatis being out for time with the shoulder and Lamet out with forearm.
=====
Going to be a bumpy road to get to the playoffs ... 4 months to go.

Depending on Hosmers arm, might see O'Grady back tomorrow.

Quote from fenn68 on June 5, 2021, 5:00 amFrom what I heard yesterday:
Nola will be out a couple of more weeks. Caratini will be getting a lot of work (more than he is used to) but I am pleased with veteran Rivas, clearly looking good defensively and not serviceable at the bat. Side: “early” concern is the durability of Nola … injured last year after the Padres got him … injured earlier this year … now injured. Is that an indicated that as a “smaller” catcher who is already in his 30s and a converted INF may not be someone to rely on as the #1 for the future?
Also, Grisham is still hurting and may go on a rehab assignment before returning … so he too may be out a while more.

Quote from fenn68 on June 5, 2021, 12:40 pmWith Williams moved to the 60 day IL the Padres now have 11 players from their 40 man winter roster on the 60 day (over 25%). Then add the three on the 10 day IL (Nola, Pomeranz, Grisham) all taking well over the 10 day timeframe that percentage of the winter roster is up to 35%. Technically should add Lawson who is on the minor league IL … so 15 of the 40 on the winter roster.
Amazing the Padres are able to sustain winning with all the adds from non-roster players during the season.

SS Fernando Tatis Jr. (shoulder soreness)
Expected return: June 21
Tatis tweaked his left shoulder while diving for a ground ball in the fifth inning of the game against the Reds on June 19, but manager Jayce Tingler noted that Tatis would play Monday against the Dodgers, "unless things drastically change.” Tatis was evaluated by team athletic trainers on June 20 and was available off the bench, though he wasn’t called upon.Tatis missed nine games in April while on the IL with a partially dislocated left shoulder -- an injury that often recurs. Tatis’ shoulder issue hadn't flared up again until June 19, but the Padres remain hopeful this flareup was a relatively minor one. (Last updated: June 20)

LHP Matt Strahm (right patellar tendon surgery)
Expected return: Post-All-Star break
Strahm rejoined the big league club after spending the first two months rehabbing his injured right knee at the team's complex in Peoria, Ariz. He is playing catch and should begin progressing to bullpen sessions in short order. Still, it’s likely to be a slow buildup for Strahm, who underwent offseason knee surgery and hasn’t pitched this season. (Last updated: June 17)

Quote from LynchMob on June 22, 2021, 5:58 pmIF Ha-Seong Kim (swelling in right index finger)
Expected return: Day to day
Playing second base on June 21, Kim knocked down a 97 mph one-hopper from Dodgers catcher Will Smith. Kim kept the ball in front of him, recovered and fired to first for the out -- but he paid a bit of a price. The ball caught him in his right index finger. X-rays on Kim's hand were negative. He was on the bench on June 22, but he was feeling better, manager Jayce Tingler said. Kim went through his full pregame routine, including taking batting practice and fielding ground balls, and he appeared to experience no effects of the injury. (Last updated: June 22)

The game went from bad to worse for the Missions. Down by one, San Antonio had two on with one out in the eighth with one of the top prospects in professional at the plate. CJ Abrams swung early in the count and grounded into a double play to end the inning. During the next half-inning, a grounder up the middle saw Abrams collide with second baseman Eguy Rosario. Abrams would limp off the field unable to put any weight on his left leg and there has been no further word on the severity of the injury. Earlier in the day, Abrams and El Paso catcher Luis Campusano were selected to represent the organization in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
