Quote from ultratvfan on September 18, 2024, 5:51 pmThe Padres takes the series.
Cease was outstanding. He was not responsible for the two hits in the 9th. Bogaerts was when he bungled two routine outs and a potential DP.
Bring on the White Sox.
GO PADRES!

Quote from fenn68 on September 18, 2024, 6:45 pmThis was a playoff worthy series with the Padres winning 2 of 3 vs the AL West leaders … a team with some elite bats and SP. Games a 3-1, 3-4, 4-0 … all tight all the way to the end

Quote from Randy Manese on September 18, 2024, 6:54 pmI was hoping not to be swept but instead, we should have swept the Astros who have a very strong line-up and solid to very good pitching. Tremendous SP in all 3 games and if we had just a little more timely hitting in all games it would have been a more dominant series win. Defense was very good except for Bogaerts fumbles in the last game; Machado and Cronenworth were near spectacular during this series. Hope Padres keep their heads down and clinch a playoff berth during the last home stand of the regular season. GO PADRES!

Quote from Jeremy Hill on September 18, 2024, 6:56 pmI just read that the last time the Padres went back-to-back-to back was in 1997. Rickey Henderson, Chris Gomez and Quilvio Veras did it on opening day. Those guys were a part of some good childhood memories for me. It's pretty crazy that they did it. They only hit 14 HRs combined that year.

Quote from fenn68 on September 18, 2024, 7:03 pmPadres may have some interesting decision on setting up the SP rotation for the rest of the season / playoffs. Of course a lot depend where they stand in the Wild Card race down the stretch. As it stand:
OFF day
CWS: Musgrove; Perez; Darvish
OFF day
LAD: King; Cease (2 extra days rest); Musgrove (1 extra day rest)
AZ: Perez (1 extra day rest); Darvish (1 extra day rest); King (on normal rest)
OFF day
Playoffs: Cease (1 extra day rest); Musgrove (1 extra day rest); Perez (1 extra day rest) or Darvish (on normal rest)
===============
Starting the Playoffs with Cease, Musgrove seems to be ideal. However, can debate if the “extra rest” helps or hurts. No idea how Shildt / Preller view this.

Quote from ultratvfan on September 18, 2024, 8:12 pmThe Dodgers will play the Marlins on Thursday when the Padres will be off. The Padres will either be 3 games or 4 games behind the Dodgers going into Friday.
The Marlins will have Everth Cabrera on the mound and he has been solid in September pitching back-to-back shutout games that include shutting down the the Phillies. The Marlins will be facing Flaherty, who is coming off a rough outing in Atlanta. Let's root for the Marlins to beat the Dodgers.

You could have given a million guesses and I would have never came up with that trio as an answer to that trivia question. Go Pads!

No way Martin Perez starts a playoff game(s) for the Pads this year. He will be the long relief pitcher if one of the starters struggles in a particular game. It will be interesting to see what order the Pads use for their starters in the playoffs. Cease, Darvish, Musgrove, King. I'm comfortable with any of them starting a playoff game and giving us a good shot a winning any playoff game. Go Pads!
