This offense is pathetic!

Slow dribblers in the infield are all we can muster off this soft tosser.

Sad.

Thank goodness the offense picked up a bit or would have spoiled a good outing by Ross.

Anyone else think(especially after the Lamet news) that we should try to extend Ross now?

If we wait it could get much more expensive.

Trade him at the deadline.

Good to see you found us David.

I just don’t see Headley bringing anything in return.

G     AB    R    H    2B   3B    HR    RBI    BB    SO    AVE    SLG

Villanueva    13     41     7     12     4     0       5        11       4      16      .293    .756

Longoria       14     54    3     11      5     0       2         5       1       18     .204    .407

Pretty sure the Cubs and Yanks are regretting getting nothing for Pirela and Villanueva.

Is Hosmer hurt? Sitting out back to back games?

I agree about Headley-lousy trade. We basically took on 13 million dollars in payroll for nothing.

Can they just release him?

Hosmer has a minor back strain. Expects to start Monday.

Nice start to the homestand.....3 out of 4 against the Giants

Now lets see if they can keep it rolling

So, Hedges leaves the game in the first with right elbow tendinitis. You would have to believe that is an upcoming DL stint for him. That should lead to recall of Raffy Lopez. Does he start to see if he is a AAAA or ML player, or is he a back up to Ellis who is on the down slide of his career and is barely hitting .210?

With the OF, for the next 14 games after the conclusion of tonights game, lets just leave the OF the same. Cordero, Margot, and Jank. The defense of that OF is worth the price of admission alone and lets see what they can do at the plate. Let Renfroe stay DL until the end of the home games. And then based on performance, see who needs to go back to EP and work on things.

With this OF configuration, lets leave Pirela at 2B. Asuaje is not doing anything special and is not the long term answer anyway. Live with Pirelas D at 2B. And give Lopez his shot.

Until May 15th, following line up.

1. Jank - RF, 2. Hosmer - 1B, 3. Villanueva - 3B, 4. Cordero - LF, 5. Pirela - 2B, 6. Lopez - C, 7. Galvis - SS, 8. Margot - CF

"Elbow Tendinitis" ... could be a DL a lot longer than 10 days for a catcher especially if the Padres don't want to risk a real long term injury situation (and given this is a poor team .. this would be prudent).

Lopez (on the 40 man) is the logical call-up but I have no illusion that he is anything but filler ... ceiling might just be this case as an emergency fill-in. Same goes for Nicholas (non-roster) who is also in AAA and hitting better than Lopez. Ellis at this age cannot hold a starting slot for long so we should see a lot of Lopez / Nicholas IF the Hedges DL is relatively short. On this team ... can live with it.

Being the pessimist .... should we consider TJ as a risk? IF that happens ... Hedges could be back for 2019 (see Seager) but would that accelerate the promotions of Austin Allen (to AAA) and Luis Torrens (to AA) to create some 2019 options?

Nice to see Hosmer get a big hit. Hopefully this will get him started.

And that outfield D? WOW! Margot and Jankowski with superb catches. Is there an outfield in MLB with more speed than ours? If Jankowski can hit, just a little,  gives us another piece going forward.

Starting pitching is a MAJOR problem!

Lamet( injury), Perdomo( demoted) are already missing from our rotation, Richard has regressed BIG TIME, and Mitchell has been HORRIBLE. Erlin and Lauer have not taken advantage of their opportunity. Thankfully Lucchesi is showing promise.

That leaves Ross........who would guessed that a month ago?

And the pen hasn't fared well either: Lyles is just bad, as is Makita. Hand has been more a negative than positive.

Not saying our offense has been stellar( it has not!) but if we can't keep the opposition to 4 or 5 runs, we're going to be in for a long season.
