Franmil Reyes

PreviousPage 2 of 3Next

I would guess based on how much the Padres like Reyes' development and focus that he gets the bulk of RF playing time but given his size might just get periodic days off to keep him healthy for the full season. Could be Renfroe or Cordero getting those starts.

I think any and all of us who have been paying attention know that Franmil has been absolutely raking into bad luck all season long, but it's good to see it acknowledged elsewhere:

I am sold on Reyes' bat from when I noticed his change in approach after her returned for the minors last season. After a rough initial run in the bigs, post All-Star game (162 AB) a slash line of 315/383/537. This season after a dismal (unlucky) start, in the last 7 games (22 AB) a slash line of 318/375/773 with only 3 strikeouts.

Big dude with a level controlled swing and good plate discipline .... hits the ball hard and that will find the open space a lot. His size might require him to have off days to save his legs but seems to be locking down a regular role.

DH where art thou?

Hasn't drawn a walk since April 18(76 AB 1 SF)

Is that more than a nit?

I really miss Franmil as a force in the clubhouse and a passable DH now that we have a DH this year.  However, even with that big blow he's hitting .179, with a .200 OBP, .282 SA and a .482 OPS.  He's going to have his very good days, like Renfroe did a few games ago, but over the course of a season, even a shortened 60 game season we need more guys like Grisham and Pham than Reyes and Renfroe.  We haven't seen Trammell yet and he may never pan out, but you have to try to do those things that hopefully will make your team stronger in the long run.  We literally had no legit OF prospects before getting Trammell.  I wish all our ex-Padres the best - love the contributions they have made - but we weren't going anywhere with the lineup we ended the season with last year.  Still holes to fill but better.

Franmil was definitely a force in the clubhouse! All the guys really seemed to like him. And I think as he matures as a hitter, he'll be a more consistent force on the field.

While still only 25, he's got a good eye and shows patience. Especially now with the DH in the NL( will it stay?), he'd have been a plus in our lineup every day in this truncated season.

Not sure what Trammell will do in the show, I just hope he's more productive than the guy we traded him for.

Franmil has been on a tear since I posted my comment on 5 August - love to have that big guy back as our DH this year but won't trade a Gore for him or Abrams or Campusano or Patino.

Saw Reyes' HR today .... 450 ft. bullet to dead CF (second HR today .. other opposite field). Then the showed his HR from Friday ... 465 ft. to deep left center.

At this post ... a season slash line of 316/358/552.

Sutcliffe is on the national broadcast (he lives in Cardiff and has some real Padre insights) and commented that he is sure the Padres would not have traded him IF they knew the DH was coming.

Trammell may have to really blossom to get out from under the inevitable production comparison to Reyes. Thinking this trade will really sting for years.
