Not playing because Padres want him in camp learning new position and rehabbing coming back from injury... MLB has  NO jurisdiction over WBC

That’s what I assumed but keep seeing people saying he’s now allowed.

Made no sense to me…

Everything I've read says the suspension makes him ineligible. I've been trying to find the actual eligibility rules, but I'm assuming there's an agreement in place that says suspended players are ineligible. I don't know that the team would want him playing, but I don't think they're the ones preventing it.

Have not seen anything clear but clearly MLB/MLBPA are key in the participation rules … think part is covered in their CBA … and MLB/MLBPA were instrumental in establishing and direction the Classic.

From what I understand a team cannot forbid a player from playing but unclear if the player is under suspension per MLB/MLBPA has that suspension carried to the WBC. Did note that the other leagues / countries wanted the stricter Olympic drug testing rules and I think they went closer to that route. I would guess the WBC would honor the suspension and not let Tatis play.

Pretty sure the Padres want Tatis to be in AZ for ST and slowly work toward opening day … and have made that clear to him. Not sure Tatis would want to further tick off the Padres (if he could) by playing in the WBC and the Padres “suggested” not to.

Video of his HR for El Paso last night ...

San Diego Padres Daily Farm Report: April 5th

Status: After striking out in the first inning, Tatis would reach base his next three times including blasting a mammoth home run to left center. The blast, with an exit velocity of 106.7 MPH, gave Tatis the game’s hardest-hit ball for the second night in a row. After two games on a rehab assignment that can last up to 15, Tatis is 2-for-4 with a home run, four walks, and a stolen base. Defensively, his adjustment to the outfield remains a project. On back-to-back plays, he kicked a bloop that fell in front of him to give the batter an extra base, then got caught going backward to catch a sacrifice fly and missed his cutoff man on the throw. He will be eligible to return to the Padres two weeks from today.

I’m just hoping he doesn’t have a setback because I’ll be in Arizona on April 20 to see his return to mlb…hitting lead off would be awesome

road trip….Go Padres!!!⚾️

The AAAA Pitcher that gave up the homerun has been all over Twitter talking about this "cheater" hitting one off of him.

I think he's ready.

Wrap him in bubble wrap and ship him to San Diego right now.

Keep him in the bubble wrap until next Thursday.

Thank You
