Lots of quotes coming out. Preller sounds pissed. It's unbelievable how much goodwill Tatis has undone.

I'm sure Preller has spent tons of political capital getting these contracts done. It's not surprise if he takes this affront personally. It's like a kick in the jewels.

Well,he now has 9 1/2 months to get ready to play baseball.

He better not ride a bike,a scooter,a moped,or a skate board.

Put a cot at Petco and hire 2 people to watch him 24/7.

Eat,sleep, and get ready to play baseball.

Not sure how he can be trusted to go home to the DR and come back 100% next Summer.

He should have shoulder surgery now.. and rehab and play winter ball cause he is missing 194 MLB games by the time the 80 games are up

And I don't know how suspensions work but I assume he can't play in the minors in Spring Trainning or anything til after the 80 are up.. so he is missing 32 next yr + a two weeks? 3? To get in playing shape..

Not sure but think he can participate in ST … and then probably work at the AZ complex in extended ST.

Somebody needs to knock this spoiled POS off his pedestal and lay down the law. I hope Manny breaks his nose his first day back.

What a stupid mothef**ker!

This kid is dumb as a bag of rocks.

He needs to come clean RIGHT NOW- say he took the substance to help him heal quicker. If he's not honest about it now, he'll NEVER get the respect he obviously wants and needs.

Stupid motherf**ker!

RE: CBT impact

IF Roster Resource is correct the AVV for Tatis pre-suspension was $24.3MM but after it drops to $16.5MM. They seem to believe the AAV for the year is reduced to the percentage of the season not under suspension. (Not sure if that is based on team games or days left in the season).

Either way if correct … drops the Padres way UNDER the threshold for 2022 … and 2023 is reset to make them a non-repeater. If that same logic is used in 2023 … Padres should benefit by about $4MM lower CBT salaries. 2024 bounces back to the original.

IF that is correct.

Would be a small silver lining to a HUGE black cloud.

Would be a small silver lining to a HUGE black cloud.

I am looking at it this way..This is HUGE for 23 and 22.. as it resets and allows us to sign or spend +$4mil more... as well as it keeps Drury/Kim and Grish at DH/SS/CF instead of in a rotating basis in and out of lineup with Tatis around.. (sure an upgrade once or if Tatis even got to 80% of himself..but a huge negative on Defense and who knows how long Tatis would have taken to peak..One thing is starting the season from the get go...another is making all kinds of adjustments lineups/spot in the batting order and players in and out of playing time disrupting rythm..rhythm... so maybe this becomes a blessing in disguise for us) from $$ save to CBT to continuity to Tatis not getting busted closer to the playoffs or god help us next season at the start...The timing of this is almost perfect from that perspective....

I was under the impression that the money he lost due to suspension would simply be subtracted from the total value of the contract and his AAV would be recalculated based on that. The savings would be negligible in that case. What you guys are suggesting is obviously more significant. Are we sure it would get us under this season though? Roster Resource has us down to 221.6m. Spotrac has us just over 240m, so even subtracting the Tatis money we would still be over. I'm not sure where the gap between the two is coming from. Who has been more accurate in the past?

Spoiler
Hypothetical....let's say this bunch somehow bonds over this event and wins the series.

Obviously there are players in the clubhouse who've had enough of his act( Clevinger can't be the only one!). Let's say they decide, as a group, to not let him participate in any and all series win events( parades, gatherings, etc. ) as he's done nothing to contribute to the title.

Does this teach him a lesson, where he shows contrition and vows to be a better( read: mature) teammate? Or does this ostracise him, making him a pariah in the clubhouse and persona non grata in San Diego?

There's so much fall out left from this that we'll have to wait and see how it all plays out.

I so desperately want to him to be successful here, but if our veterans don't think he's man enough to help on the field, maybe doing the unthinkable becomes a reality( like Henry suggests?).
