Quote from Brian Connelly on April 6, 2021, 7:49 amQuote from WindsorUK on April 6, 2021, 7:37 amSubluxation in and of itself does not have to be a long term issue. Strengthening the shoulder area( deltoid, rotator cuff, lats, traps, etc.) could have him back in a short while( certainly before the break)
Now if it's a labrum tear, he's done for 2021.
It's a bit shocking that he's had this issue since the minors. Other than this spring, have we heard of it before?
... and by "we" I mean THE PADRES ORG?!?!?! HAVE to think they knew about it & did every medical test known before handing out that contract, yes?

Quote from WindsorUK on April 6, 2021, 7:55 amSorry Brian, actually asking if any of you guys had heard it before? I hadn't.
And like you, I assume Seidler and Fowler did their diligence prior to giving him all that money.

Yeh, everything I have heard was the issue was known and minor in nature that it could be managed. The combo of the ST injury and now the regular season injury may elevate the surgery option but still “correctable” by all accounts.
Back to other comment ... when do they opt for the surgery (now / off-season) and in the short run if no surgery what can they expect in production or reoccurrence? Two “events” in less than two months might be a factor in the call.
Not sure of recovery time (probably depends on the specifics of the surgery) but may be more focused on his return in full health for 2022 than rolling the dice on his availability in 2021.

Quote from Brian Connelly on April 6, 2021, 8:27 amEven though it sounds like laprascopic surgery, it sounds like a 6-month recovery time...
Think it comes down to if there is ANY chance of a recurrence (which is pretty likely) worsening anything you don't risk it.
BUT if a Dr. says a recurrence doesn't worsen the big picture, could try to play through & get surgery right after season.
But even in that best case it's pretty obvious even a minor recurrence would have to result in surgery/out for 2021.
... knowing Tatis he's probably looking at a calendar & thinking "I could make it back for playoffs!" 🙂

Quote from Brian Connelly on April 6, 2021, 8:28 amI have to say that swing in slow mo looked SO violent & especially the follow through a ridiculous amount of torque/contortion...
... like everything else Tatis the first 5 games..... out of control

Listening to Steve Phillips and CJ Nitkowski on XM this morning. Their concern was if no surgery, you could see a change in Tatis swing to "avoid" pain/not reinjuring the shoulder. Might be best served to not throw a kink in his swing, to surgery now, and then have a healthy Tatis and Clevinger for a totally strong run in 2022.

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 6, 2021, 6:45 pmApparently he can’t do much more damage by playing. Will need surgery at some point anyway.
If he gets it now he will miss basically the entire season.
So he may as well try to play through it(as he has been)and get the surgery the day after we win the World Series and be ready for 22’.
Would be helpful if he doesn’t swing and miss.

Quote from Brian Connelly on April 7, 2021, 6:26 amSure a better prognosis than could have even been hoped for 24 hours ago...
But Tatis is simply going to have to tone down some of the stuff he currently does. The swing follow through was ridiculous; would have dislocated my shoulder... that's for sure. Hitting the ball 475 feet gets you on ESPN, but there's no extra credit for distance
I'm just relieved to hear the optimism for Tatis' & the team's sake!
