Ethan Salas

It took 10 games, but Ethan Salas finally logged his first extra-base hit of the season with an opposite-field double to left-center in the bottom of the sixth. While it’s been far from perfect start at the dish for Salas, even with the early struggles, the 18-year-old Salas has still reached base safely in six straight games. His elite feel for the zone also continues to shine through as he sports a 14.6% walk rate, well above league average.

Ethan Salas had only 11 plate appearances on the week, going 1-for-8 with a double and two walks. He left Thursday night’s game after coming up a bit hobbled running the bases and did not return to the lineup over the weekend. His health will obviously be a key storyline to watch. Even with a wRC+ of only 75 and .118 batting average, Salas is still taking good at-bats and reaching base thanks to a 14.6% walk rate. He has more walks (6) than strikeouts (5) on the season.

Quote from fenn68 on October 6, 2025, 11:26 amI can understand the Padres being very careful with the recovery for Salas in an effort to minimize any chance of a re-occurance ... short term or long term. Also, all back stress fractures are not the same ... so a bit in the dark there. Typically back stress fractures have about a 90% success to a return to full activity.
However, have to worry. The initial 3 month projection for return is in line with the "normal" healing timeline ... but we are now pushing towards 6 months.
Essentially he has lost development for 1 year ... but he is still very young so health is more critical than rapid development ... so no issue with not pushing him.
Was ticketed for the AZ Fall league but since pulled. Any idea if he is working on baseball activities in the Padres' instructs? Hope he is full recovered for the start of a 2026 MiL season.
