2026 Opening Series: Detroit Tigers at San Diego Padres: March 26-28
Quote from Jeremy Hill on March 26, 2026, 6:30 pmI agree with Fenn about Marinaccio. One bad pitch to Dingler after a weak contact infield single from McGonigle. I thought he did a solid job overall. Merrill had a rough day at the plate. Based off of his career splits he probably should hit lower in the order against lefties. It was a clunker of an opener. Hopefully they'll be better tomorrow.

"pounded" is an overstatement ... just ask Oneal Cruz 🙁

Quote from ultratvfan on March 27, 2026, 9:40 pmKing shut down the Tigers in 5 scoreless innings. Why take him out on only 82 pitches after 5 IP?
Estrada did not have it tonight. He could not find the plate.
Let's hope Vasquez is on top of his game tomorrow.
Let's win to prevent the sweep.
GO PADRES!

DET has already won the series, no rubber match tomorrow.

Quote from ultratvfan on March 28, 2026, 6:47 amYou are right. I had that on my mind when I thought they would hold thm in the 8th. But, the BP failed.

Stammen suggested they are on some "early season" thinking and are just not pushing any pitcher to max innings (pitches). I guess in part that is the impact of what should be the best pen in MLB. Estrada's failure is the unexpected factor.
Note that Stammen said that they had agreed before the game they would not use Miller for more than one inning this early in the season ... later in the season they might.

Quote from fenn68 on March 28, 2026, 6:59 amSong started at 2B in EP yesterday ... had a hit and RBI ... so should be ready to be activated in just over a week.
With that in mind, the competition between Castellanos and France for who is not released when Song is activated is so far inconclusive as both have done nothing offensively ... and both have had chances with men on base.

Quote from fenn68 on March 28, 2026, 7:05 amCampusano look much better defensively BUT ugly while hitting (actually not hitting). I was hoping his 2025 in EP would at least carry a bit into the ML this season ... now worried even from a limited one game showing.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on March 28, 2026, 12:48 pmCampusano just has not looked comfortable at the plate at the major league level going back to last year. His body language looks completely different than what I've seen in the handful of minor league games I've watched him in. He was put in a tough spot last year trying to produce in very limited and sporadic playing time. I don't know if he's just pressing trying to prove that he belongs or what. Something just seems off. I know the PCL inflates stats, but I think there's more to it than that. He looked much more confident and relaxed at the plate in the minor league games I watched last year. With a more defined role this year I'm hoping he can settle in and become a productive major leaguer again.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on March 28, 2026, 7:51 pmVasquez's velocity is up a tick or 2 and all of his pitches look sharper. He only topped 5 Ks once last season when he had 9 against the Rockies late in the year. Starting the year with 8 against a much better team seems like a good sign that his gains are legit.
