Here were are starting a new season with new manager Craig Stammen. The Padres begin the 2026 season opener and home opener with two back-to-back marquee matchusp: Skubal vs Pivetta and Valdez vs King. Following the Tigers, they will host two games against the Giants and then head east to battle the Red Sox and Pirates. Last season the Padres began the season 7-0. Can they do it again or better. Stay tuned.
The Padres brought back Ty France, signed former Dodger pitcher Walker Buehler and former Rockies pitcher Germán Márquez. All three and Bryce Johnson made the opeing day roster. Also, they signed RF Nick Castellano. Unfortunately, both Joe Musgrove and IF Sung-Mun Song will start the season on the IL, but both could be back mid-April.

Besides our SP, much depends on how much the team has improved against LHP and we have 2 very good ones going against us. Should see what, if any, contributions we get from Andujar, Castellanos and France and whether Taty and Manny can do better than they have recently against LHPs. A real test for Croney, Merrill and Sheets but hopefully Bogaerts, Laureano and Fermin have good days.
Pivetta and King have to keep the ball in the park and turn over a lead to our bullpen. That, again, should be the formula for success this year. A very tough opening series but crossing my fingers that we win 2 of 3.

I would not make any conclusions about improvement vs LHP after two games against two of the best LHP in MLB. Love to see the Padres hit them but more interested in how the team ... across 162 games ... hits average and below average LHP where they also struggled. Hit them and get more wins and more wins gets them into the playoffs.
Playoffs are their own animal ... and six months off ... a lot of re-assessment time.

Gonna have to beat at least one exceptional starter to do so...........but LFGSD!

Skenes could not get out of the first inning against the Mets. He was pounded for 5 runs before being removed.
Let's hope the Padres have at least that good of success against Skubal.

Pivetta did not look good today. He was pounded by the Tigers Neither did Marinaccio. Morgan, Rodriguez and Peralta performed better. Let's hope they play better tomorrow.

Pivetta had no command and got behind too many hitters ... his "stuff" looked OK. Was already worried that we may be expecting too much from Pivetta and his ability to match his career season of 2025 ... hopefully if he slides it is not by too much.
Marinaccio gave up that 2 run HR but again his stuff and command was good ... so look fine except for that one pitch (of course if those one pitch errors continue a problem).
Clearly the offense was out matched by Skubel ... looked a "little" better vs the RP. One game noting that Judge struck out 4 times and Skenes got shelled ... so even the best struggle.
