Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres: April 14-6

PreviousPage 2 of 5Next

The Padres walk it off for the second night in a row winning their third game in a row. Last night Bogaerts hit a grand slam and tonight Sheets hit a 3-run bomb.

Buehler was outstanding. Morejon was not good tonight and I thought Stammens left him in too long. Nice to see Adam back. He was solid. Estrada on the IL with elbow tendonitis.

Miller is way better than Suarez. He is one of AJP's best aquisitions.

Campy has come alive. What we fans have been waiting for a long time. He has a .353 avg. The highest on the team.

Marquez on the mount tomorrow.

GO PADRES!

Morejon was a swinging bunt single away from a quick 3 up 3 down inning. With slightly better luck he's coming off of back to back quick scoreless appearances. It does seem like his command is slightly off and he doesn't seem to have great feel for his secondary stuff. I'm not worried though. I think he'll get rolling soon.

Agree, but wonder if the Padres made some changes in Morejon's approach (small sample size risk for this observation).

First his average FB velocity is up 2-3 MPH nearing 100 MPH. (note similar upticks in other arms ... see Vasquez). Then, his K% and his BB% are both down. His use of the change-up his increased.

It is early and a small sample size ... but something to keep tabs on.

If what I saw was correct ... a surprising new line-up for tonight.

  1. Bogaerts gets the night off
  2. Cronenworth moves to SS
  3. WAIT FOR IT .... Tatis moves to 2B
  4. Castellanos in RF

Thought ... looking as though France (who could have played 2B) is going to be the first out if they come up with a legit middle INF (or Song returns) ...

Tatis needs to stay in right field. He can catch the balls out there like no other. He has saved many runs and stolen many HRs. Stammen made a  huge mistake.

Stammen seems committed to making sure the veteran starters get regular rest days. Without a middle infielder on the bench I guess this is what he decided to do to give Bogaerts a day. I don't love Castellanos in RF, but I don't think France is viable at 2B anymore. It could indicate that Song could be added sooner than later regardless of his offensive performance in the minors.

Or, considering how little France has been used, they might go with the defensive first option in McCoy to sit on the bench and let Song continue to develop in AAA.

Depending on how they are evaluating Song's progress ... chance they find a veteran bench option for the middle INF.

Well in the Buehler vs Marquez battle ... advantage swings to Buehler.

Marquez 3 HR in 3 innings at PETCO in the spring ... not ideal.

The Padres win extending their streak to 4. They have won 7 of their last 8 games and 8 of their last 10 games.

Marquez was not sharp. But, the offense came alive. Tatis has his first multi-hit of season going 3 for 4, Machado hits a 2-run HR and Lareano hits a 3-run bomb.

It is good to have Adam back.

The Padres have a chance to sweep tomorrow with Pivetta on the mound.

Let's get out the brooms!

GO PADRES!

Actually Tatis was 3 for 4, maybe a day on 2B helped him light the spark offensively speaking.
