The Padres head home on a high note winning back to back series and winning 5 of their last 7 games to battle the Rockies in a 4-game series. They do not play as well on the road. They are 5-2 at home, but 2-4 on the road. They finished last season with a 10-3 record and a 6-1 home record over the Rockies. I can see at least a split in this series. Winning 3 of 4 would be better. A sweep would be sweet.
Vazquez has been nothing but amazing this season allowing only 1 ER in 12 IP in two starts this season. Sugano will be tough and the Padres offense need to step it up, especially with Buehler on the mound. Márquez is coming off a solid start. I hope he continues. I believe the Padres will get to Feltner and win this one. Freeland will be tough. But, so is Pivetta, who is coming off back-to-back solid starts.

Rockies Jimmy Herget pitches game 1. He has pitched in 5 games this season, all relief. This will be his first start of this season.

The Padres win game 1 in extras on a Bogaerts walk off Grand Slam.
Vasquez once again was solid and the best of the rotation.
The Padres could have won it in 9 innings instead of 12 had he not got himself picked off in the 8th.
Buehler on the mound tomorrow. Yikes! Let's hope he pitches well.

I gave it up after we didn't score in the bottom of the 11th.
So missed all the excitement but it was pretty dang late

I'm still on the east coast. I fell asleep in the 7th. Glad to see we got the win when I woke up. I'm impressed by your dedication Mr. P

Looks as though Adam is going to get activated either today or tomorrow. We have been debating who gets sent down BUT listening to Stammen today ... a possibility of Estrada going on the IL. Apparently no clear injury BUT a significant drop in his FB velocity and that could be a precursor to injury concern.
Also, have to think Waldron is in play sooner than later ... he pitched yesterday and now has appeared in 3 games (12 innings) with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.67 WHIP. Yes, only AAA but apparently his velocity is up and his command has improved. Next two days have starts by Buehler and Marquez ... might be critical for them. Did hear someone suggest Buehler may be better suited as the long man in the pen at this stage of his career. Effective through the first time through the order then a problem. Another scenario to consider.
Lastly, heard Stammen speaking on Musgrove ... as expected said all positives thing about him and the organization supports him ... BUT reading between the lines, what was not said, and the fact that he is still just lightly throwing ... have to speculate that his timeline for return is a long way off (if ever).

Also heard that Estrada does still have an option.
So don't need an il stint if he just needs to rest a few days or work on his something mechanical.
Could send him to AA or AAA to do that....so if he does go on injured list he may actually have an injury.
Let's hope that isn't the case

Whether Estrada is sent down by option of being placed on the IL, there still is a minimum of 15 days he has to stay in the minors in either capacity. I like the IL/rehab option better because it gives him an additional 15 days of rehab before he must either be brought back to the majors or optioned.
If you go to the option directly, must ensure he does not spend more than 20 days total in the minors this year otherwise he would exhaust his last option. I guess you could option him first and then put him on the IL but to me the first alternative is cleaner.
Estrada has already been in 7 games and he's actually getting hit hard even though not given up a lot of runs. His hard hit rate and barrel rate are almost double from last year's numbers and his K-BB% and Swing Strike Percentage are about half of what it usually is. Clearly, something is going on with him and they need to protect him long range by giving him some time off and fully checking out that arm.

A bit depends on what they think is the issue with Estrada. An IL designation could keep him in SD working with Niebla and the medical staff or go to extended ST for further evaluation / conditioning before going on a rehab assignment (30 days for pitchers).
If it is just early season conditioning ... a 30 day ramp-up should do it. Did see a comment that Estrada has lost weight this season ... never know if that is a factor.
Since the Padres seem to have a strong set of RP options utilizing the option that gives them the max time to decide his (and others) fate would seem strategic. A 30+ day window does allow Preller to potentially work some trade options.
