Doubt Quantrill has much trade value ... what you see is likely what other teams see (so why give up anything of quality for him). Maybe he moves as the 2nd or 3rd piece in a bigger deal.

On the other hand ... if you can't get anything better back (they won't) ... why trade him? He is not occupying an roster slot and he has the basic stuff that got him drafted high ... so just ride it out that he develops the command to become a serviceable ML pitcher. If not no harm no foul and he just fades away.

That is how I see it ... Quantrill still has a lot of POTENTIAL but not enough to merit a quality return on his own (would guess almost every team would take him ... just not give any prospect with a superior profile).

However, as the second / third piece in a deal ... more than enough to make a package appealing. So, essentially Padres should keep him and see if he develops OR use him in a bigger deal to get that major return piece they are looking to add.

Adam (Las Vegas): FB/CH-only SP pitchers like Chris Paddack don’t exactly have a sterling record of panning out. Is he the type of pitcher who potentially has more trade value than likely performance value for the Padres?

Kyle Glaser: No, because for the reason you stated most external evaluators have him as a No. 4-5 starter, while the Padres internally have him higher. Opposing teams like him, but not at the price it would probably make sense for the Padres to move him on his own. (A package would obviously be a different dynamic)

Always hard to really predict how any young pitcher develops .... sort of why a team needs a large overstock of legit prospect to end up with a decent set 5 ML SP at some point.

Pitchers projected to be #1, #2, #3 are just hard to find (some might not make it but need some to succeed if you want a legit ML staff). To that end, even if their minor league production is not exciting but their "stuff" is ... got to hold. Even if the pitcher is though of as a #4 would not just toss them out without a sufficient return ... having 5 SP develop is just not easy. I would toss into the hold list Patino ... have heard nothing but upside good on the youngster.

We will see on Weathers, probably not a top of the rotation stuff BUT apparently a strong array multiple pitches ... might be the guy who is very effective if he has the command on all those pitches.
