Champion your prospect.

Page 1 of 7Next

I started this a long time ago, it went on after I stoped posting but haven’t seen it in awhile so figured I’d start it again.  You are championing a prospect for the next year.  Doesn’t mean he makes the majors, it’s about who you think develops the most in the next year.  Henry Silvestre gets Ethan Salas by pure hype he gives the kid.  So Henry doesn’t get a vote as Salas is his prospect.  Mine is Samuel Zavala, let’s see who y’all champion.

This is the dead season, so participate.

Lizarraga … hoping for a big FW season and a bump to AA late in the season.

While Lizarraga is a legit known prospect …. I will add my “under the radar” minor leaguer who might (just might) bloom as a RP in A+/AA … Chase Walter.

I will go with Korry Howell. I like the speed, and the CF defense. He has some OB skills, but needs the bat to come around to be a ML contributor.

Adam Mazur for me. Padres are desperate for pitching, Mazur already has college experience and it seems to me like he could move quickly.

Don't get me wrong, Dylan Lesko is far-and-away my favorite Padres prospect. I just don't see Lesko getting more than a few innings this year.

Everyone expects Jackson Merrill to rocket up the prospect chart so I'm thinking you're looking for someone who is lesser known but has the possibility to make great strides this coming year.  I'm looking at LF-1b Albert Fabian, who should start the season in Ft. Wayne, as the surprise hitting star of what should be a very strong Tincaps team.   I concur with JasonE135 that Mazur is the pitcher I'm looking at to be a big mover during 2023.

Big Country Griffin Doersching will hit a ball or 2 out of Petco Park in his career

But yeah Ethan Salas will be in Lake Elsinore in yr one ..perhaps before his 17th birthday..

Robbie Podorsky is my annual pick....lol

But,can't go there anymore so I think I'll take Robby Snelling.

Sticking with the "Robbie" pattern.

It's a good time to do this again. There are a lot of young unproven guys on most of the prospect lists I've seen for our system. There should be room for a wide range of outcomes.

I'll go with Nerwilian Cedeno. He seems to have the disciplined approach I like in a hitter. If we're going 1 pitcher and 1 hitter I'll take Jagger Haynes too. I'm excited to see what he does when he finally gets back on the mound. He's lost a lot of time between Tommy John and COVID.

Really though it should be fun to see how a lot of guys do this year. Between Lesko, Snelling, Mazur, Williams, Montesino, Rojas, King, Haynes, Verdugo and others there are lots of guys who we should start to get our first real look at.

I am going with Daniel Montesino.  I was intrigued by his DSL stats in 2021 and bummed he was out with TJ all last year.  Hoping he can look good working his way back and making a big adjustment playing in the states.
