CF 2020

If Myers is still on the roster, and in good health, he HAS to be the everyday RF. Otherwise, it'll be more of the same BS that we endured with Green( in and out of the line up, up and down the order)

There has to be a million different options in CF before this organization would even contemplate Myers in CF again.

Thank you, yes! Just leave Myers in RF and lets figure out a good option for CF.

I guess my order for RHH CFer would be Maybin, Pillar, Gettys. With that being said, probably the easiest, and least expensive option would be Gettys. Plus, with wither Grisham or Cordero (if healthy) as the main CF option with most of the ABs coming against RHP, Gettys would probably be an OK option to start the season.

According to MLBTR SD has agreed to a MiL deal with Juan Lugares. The deal is for $1.4M if/when he makes the ML team. Sounds like AJP might ahve found his RH CFer, picked a really good RP, and saved $1.3M± in the process.

Let us not confuse the current Juan Lagares with the Juan Lagares of 2013-14. Ton of injuries ... declining offense (and was never good offensively) ... defense of the past two season has not been that good.

Decent "look and see" signing ... but more likely a AAA option as insurance to start the season (like Beckham's signing).

Side: did hear (Morosi I think) that TB has been trying for "years" to pry Margot away for SD ... they really love his upside. TB is pretty good in player evaluations.

Makes me worry ... since they dealt the under performing Archer to PITT for then under performing Glasnow and Meadows ... they were right / Pitt was wrong. So Margot?

ALWAYS be nervous when dealing with Tampa Bay or St. Louis... they know what they're doing!

... + 1.1 MM in incentives.   There goes the $ savings; but only if Lagares performs well.   So at that point you've band aid replaced Margot for this year at same cost (Margot highly likely to have been replaced before 2021 O.D. anyway with rising salary & limited role) & gained Pagan.... but that's a pretty unlikely best case outcome.

He has a REALLY early opt out date of 3/19.  Think it's going to be pretty obvious fairly early whether he's "in" or "out".  Lagares is the ideal "type" of guy we needed to sign to backfill; > Maybin (younger, better CF defense) or Jankowski (same $, LH)... but if he is PRIMARILY a defensive replacement, I'm not sure I go with him over Gettys.  Gettys' power, arm, & speed are superior.  Defense might be similar at this stage of their respective careers.  And Lagares has never been able to hit or get on base, esp vs. RHP; not much of a bar to clear.  Just have to limit his play/matchups, but if Gettys ends up your last PH in a game you're down, at least there's a CHANCE he might pop a HR or beat out a tough ground ball in the INF (I know... has to actually put it in play!).   Would be really surprised if 1 of the now 4 RH CF capable guys (Lagares, Almonte (SH), Olivares, or Gettys) was NOT the 5th OF.  Grisham, Naylor, and ESPECIALLY Cordero need to play regularly to develop & get bettter; can't do that as the 5th OF.  I'm not a big fan of "glove first" guys on the bench, but the way this team is constructed,

Think OF, esp CF, and 2B will be the most interesting positions to watch in ST.  How do they get significant "reps" to all the guys competing for the last bench roles?   Answer probably is "they can't", so the REAL thing to watch in ST might be fielding drills esp in CF.... kind of like the highly significant 1-on-1 matchups in NFL camps of DL vs. OL.

I’ve been saying for years that Margot was undervalued around here. His defense is going to be sorely missed in Petco and he’s shown flashes of being productive offensive player. I know the numbers against RHP have been awful the last couple of years, but I don’t think Andy Green did Margot any favors. I’m excited about Pagan. The guy is filthy, but I have a feeling Margot and Driscoll will make us regret this trade.

Disagree.  I think there is a greater than 0 chance that Margot finally becomes the player we were hoping he would become when we acquired him, but I dont think he was ever going to be that with the Padres.

Margot probably lost his starting spot to Grisham which means he only plays maybe twice a week or as a defensive replacement.  Why not upgrade anywhere you can for a bench player?  IMO the Lagares signing is just in case Franchy gets injured again.  If Franchy stays healthy he makes the team as the backup CF.  If he cant, than we have a veteran backup.

If Pham is playing 99% of games in left.  Grisham 80% in CF, and Myers 80% in RF, Margot wouldnt play much.  I agree with the "leave Myers alone in RF and hope for the MVP numbers again." idea, but what do you do with Naylor?  He is an ideal R/L platoon with Myers, but would you really give Naylor most of the starts (as most starters are right handed)

Saw notes from Cassavell and he thinks (if healthy) Cordero is the #1 CF. Saw notes from Acee and he thinks Grisham is the #1 CF. ST will mean a lot since neither have a robust ML track record ... maybe they just alternate until one takes it. Looking at a way too small sample size on both ... Cordero may have the inside track despite a extremely ugly K%.

Myers has to be the full time RF (no time in CF ... we have seen and we don't like) plus when I looked a stats vs. RHP ... Myers and Naylor are pretty close and as marginal as Myers is defensively ... Naylor is worse. Send Naylor to AAA or deal him.

Lagares ... open in case of emergency only.

I've been saying all offseason to send Naylor to AAA and let him rake to build trade value....."someone" in the AL will want him at the deadline or next offseason.

Even if part of a larger deal.

Let's face it.....as long as Hosmer is healthy Naylor just isn't gonna get playing time for us.
