King was not good today. Let's hope he bounces back. BP was solid. Jacob gave up a HR, but otherwise solid.
The Padres scored 7 runs on 10 hits.Tatis 3 for 4
Machado 2 for 3, 1 BB, 1 RBI
Merrill 1 for 3, 4 RBI
Sheets 1 for 1, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Diaz 2 for 3Cease on the mound tomorrow
GO PADRES!
Ump was terrible today. He had a very tight strike zone.

Quote from fenn68 on March 27, 2025, 5:28 pmEnjoyable game. Padres come from behind twice ... ran the bases very well ... HR saving catches by Lockridge and Merrill ... got clutch hits and delivered with key SFs ... pen was shut down for the last 5 2/3.
King did not have the command of his pitches but they were still showing a lot of movement. Not worried there.
Bogaerts throwing error in the 9th was worrisome on an easy throw. Plus was a bit surprised by all the balls Diaz did not catch cleanly ... given his reputation was elite defense. Small stuff vs the good stuff.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on March 27, 2025, 7:27 pmA nice tribute to Rickey, Hoffy throwing out the first pitch to Carlos Hernandez and a well earned win. Not a bad opening day.

Quote from Randy Manese on March 27, 2025, 7:34 pmAgree ump was terrible but partially disagree that he had a very tight strike zone because saw multiple balls that were high and outside to our LH Hitters that clearly missed by a lot that were called strikes, so imps's strike zone overall was awful. Became concerned we could not score with 1 out and Tatis on 3rd base after banging a hit off the wall (he possibly could have made it to second if he ran hard but it came back to Profar quickly) and that would haunt us later but overcame that fear in the 7th.
Merrill looks so good as a 2nd year player, holding his own against tough LH pitching - unfortunately Cronenworth did not but Shildt could not find it in his heart to start Iglesias at 2b on opening day over Croney (which I believe he would do any other day). Lockridge earned his roster spot with that terrific HR-robbing catch in LF - neither Profar or Heyward would have gotten to it. Not worried about King, pitches just had too much movement; he's such a cerebral guy that he'll figure it out before his next start. Got worried when Suarez came in but he generally did a good job. Overall, very satisfying start to the season and hope we get the good Dylan Cease tomorrow. Go Padres!

Quote from Jeremy Hill on March 27, 2025, 8:45 pmI don't know if Tatis would have made it to 2nd. It was a rocket and Profar played it perfectly. I do know by not running out of the box he took away any chance. If it was a one time thing I wouldn't really care. He's done it a number of times over the years. He's not the only one either. I've seen lots of guys cost themselves bases by not running on balls they thought were gone that Petco held.

Even Sale thought it was gone by his expression....no excuse as it never got high enough.
I see no sophomore slump coming from Merrill.
He's just too committed and works too hard IMO for it to happen.
I believe King was just a bit too amped up (wild) for Opening day and with that crowd.
Should be fine

I like it.
X and Crone switching places depending on the SP.
Tatis leading off with a running mindset….and Arraez hitting it where they ain’t.
I think much of this years success will depend on how much the bottom three can get on base ahead of the Big Bats(tm).
And the health of the rotation.

Arraez is perfectly slotted in at #2.
Okay, rant over. Go Pads!
