The Padres open the series against a tough team, against a tough Sale and will be facing former Padre LF Jurickson Profar and RP Pierce Johnson. The Braves will be looking for payback after being knocked out of the playoffs last season by the Padres, who won the season series 6-3. The Padres will not have to face Strider as he is opening the season on the IL.
Starters Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove and Matt Waldron, and relievers Bryan Hoeing, Sean Reynolds and Jhony Brito, will open the season on the IL.
The rotation is set: King, Cease, Pivetta, Hart and Vasquez. Hart is the only lefty.
Diaz is the starting catcher. Campy lost his backup catcher role to Maldanado. Lockridge, who looked good in spring training, will probably start in LF rotating with Heyward. He is the better hitter than Joe and Heyward.
On another note: Snell, who is known for his slow starts, opens for the Dodgers.

The best day of the year. An interesting wrinkle in the lineup with Tatis leading off and Arraez in the 2 hole. I like it. Manny and Bogaerts ahead of Merrill with Sale on the mound too.

The opening day roster is set:
Catchers (2): Elias Díaz, Martín Maldonado
Infield (7): Luis Arraez, Jake Cronenworth, Xander Bogaerts, Manny Machado, Jose Iglesias, Yuli Gurriel, Gavin Sheets
Outfield (4): Fernando Tatis Jr., Jackson Merrill, Jason Heyward, Brandon Lockridge
Rotation (5): Michael King, Dylan Cease, Nick Pivetta, Kyle Hart, Randy Vásquez
Bullpen (8): Robert Suarez, Jason Adam, Jeremiah Estrada, Adrian Morejon, Yuki Matsui, Alek Jacob, Wandy Peralta, Omar Cruz
With Lockridge's inclusion, the Padres designated Tyler Wade and Eguy Rosario for assignment. Both were out of options.

At some point you would think Tatis would learn to stop watching what he thinks are HRs and just run until he knows it's actually gone.

Yeah not a good look.
As hard as it was hit he may have been thrown out at 2b if he had ran…..that’s what I’m going with anyway.

Padres take the season opener in front of the home crowd beating the Braves with Sale on the mound.
King was not good today. Let's hope he bounces back. BP was solid. Jacob gave up a HR, but otherwise solid.
The Padres scored 7 runs on 10 hits.
Tatis 3 for 4
Machado 2 for 3, 1 BB, 1 RBI
Merrill 1 for 3, 4 RBI
Sheets 1 for 1, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Diaz 2 for 3
Cease on the mound tomorrow
