Congrats to Kim Ng finally getting the chance to be a GM in MLB for the Marlins. She has been in baseball a long time, and with some good organizations. She may be hamstrung by a small budget; however, she has good pieces in place for a team that probably over achieved last season.

Second that.  Long overdue.  Ultra-qualified.

The best, most qualified person, should get the job. Period.

Watch out for some big moves by the Mets this winter.

  1. the ownership change to Steven Cohen ... billionaire and mega baseball/Mets fan ... already stirred the speculation mill on big signings ... payroll "only" at $160MM.
  2. Cano just tested positive for PED (his second time) resulting in an unpaid suspension for the entire 2021 season ... another Mets' saving of net $20MM ... payroll down to about $140MM setting a lot of room for BIG FA signings.
  3. Although Cano returns in 2022 (and his net $20MM) there are players going to FA totaling about $60MM ... net another drop of $40MM ... payroll for 2022 starting at $100MM

Mets are NOT going forward at those levels of payroll and will want to make themselves as a major MLB force in a major market .... and a lot of payroll space between $100MM and the luxury tax level ... greater than a $100 ADDITIONAL! Bauer + Realmuto + Lindor?

Watch out Atlanta - Washington - Philadelphia - Miami and the rest of the NL ... a monster is on the rise sooner than you think.

Cano has had a SPECTACULAR career but does it fall under the same category as A-ROID, Palmeiro, Sosa?

Guys WE KNOW used PED's but still stood out whilst others most assuredly taking them, did not?

So with the Mets need and money and the Cubs looking to rebuild....I could see Baez going to NY....maybe even along with Bryant.

But do the Mets even have the goods to make that kind of deal?

Probably have the assets but really don’t need to give up much when they could clean up the FA market and keep those assets.

Add Bauer to DeGrom - Stroman - Peterson - (maybe Syndergaard) ... whew!

Add Realmuto behind the plate to cover a major void ... adds offense and defense

Add Lindor solidifies SS with offense / defense and one of their SS goes to 2B for Cano)

Actually the Mets were decent offensively last year with Conforto, Nimmo, McNeal, Alonso, et al. ... so the add of Realmuto / Lindor would make thier offense even stronger.

The one gap the would need to fill is RP .. and there are quite a few good ones on the market for maybe $7-8MM additional.

That would be quite a splash by Cohen ... grab the NY headlines / market (and the related money). If they went that route, NYM would vault into a neck and neck odds battle with the LAD for the NL Championship and the World Series.

Don't put TOO much stock in MLB.com's Top 30's by Team... especially after no Minors in 2020.

Angels just left 7 of their top 30 unprotected for Rule 5.   But a mediocre system.  Most interesting guy:  #24 Kevin Maitan 3B/SS the #1 prospect from the 2016 International Draft class.    His 4.25 MM bonus just topped #2... Luis Almanzar  (4 MM)  🙁

Wow! I remember the massive hype on Maitan as an international signing. Hard to be “right” on 16 year olds. I guess is take your best shot with the money ... expect some major failures ... and hope for some major success to justify the total pool spending.

Arenado to the Duds?????

What would that deal look like? If I'm Colorado I'm starting with May, Gonsolin, Lux, and maybe Smith or another top prospect.

No way the Rockies can trade a HUGE asset within the division without grabbing a lot of pieces in return.
