Around the League...non Padres

I think at this point any big move by Preller and Seidler will strictly be judged on will this guy (insert name) actually move the needle and be the FINAL piece of the puzzle ….all these guys still available either as a FA or by way of trade are just guys….Ohtani moves the needle….extending Soto and Machado move the needle….other guys are exactly that….just guys .

Still have to be mindful of the long term and moving top prospects for anything else other than a needle mover is a fools errand.

I truly believe this team will show up to spring training with the vibe that they ARE the team to beat this year and that can be a very contagious positive vibe to have regardless of when Tatis is actually ready to play and be a positive influence on this team going forward.

I plan on spending a week at Spring Training this year even though it means I’ll have to miss a week of umpiring high school games early in the season

Go Padres!!!⚾️

Not the same kind of player as Kim but should be an ideal #2 hitter (bats left) in an every day line-up.  Kim was more power and speed but less on-base/contact in the KBO.  Lee will have to overcome GB tendencies (Kim had more FB tendencies than GB) otherwise he could be another Hosmer, i.e., hard contact but right at infielders.  Probably will be helped by new shift rules but doesn't have great speed to beat out infield hits or steal many bases.  Less concerned about his ability to hit velocity because his swing doesn't look so uppercut pronounced as Kim's, however, still will need the lift to turn those grounders into line-drives.  Don't see him as a big HR hitter, although seems to be getting stronger with maturity, but likely in that 15-20 HR range at his peak with solid defense in CF - kind of an upgraded version of Profar at his best with us.  I'm guessing something like a consistent .275/.365/410 slash line but hoping for a higher SA as he reaches his peak years.  5 years, 60M?  Signing would make up for loss/trade of Hassell but doesn't have Hassell's speed.

Thanks for the insight.

Never know in this new big money FA market but if Kim (who was a super star in the KBO) got 4 years / $28MM … Padres may be able to sign Lee for a bit less than the 5 years / $60 MM.

Guess we are thinking an upgrade over Grisham? Or early coverage if they don’t resign Soto? DH if Carpenter does not exercise his player option? 4th OF (passes Azocar)?

With Zavala the top OF prospect still a number of years out … Padres could use Lee as that transition player. 2025: Lee (L) - Zavala (L)  - Tatis?

I like to have at least a day or two before the games start.

I like just hanging at the Park while they practice.

Maybe spend some time on the back fields as well

I just saw where Liam Hendricks is starting treatment for Non Hodgkins Lymphoma.

I pray he has a full recovery and returns to baseball.

Guys a monster on the mound.

One of the best humans in the game. Hope he dominates it the same way he does hitters.

Nashville would be an awesome expansion. team

Monterrey,Mexico would be my 2nd choice

Move the Marlins to Jacksonville (looking at Jags/Titans game there..thunk that is a huge sports town vs current situation

Rays to North Carolina ?? For geography reasons...

Other cities (i would explore)- Vancouver (Canada).. Mexico City..

The Marlins stadium is barely 10 years old and the Rays stadium was opened in 1990, compared to the Oakland Coliseum that was opened in 1966, and is pit. Although so it Tropicana Field.

The Oakland As will get moved prior to any other team moving, or an expansion team coming into the league. Then the league will figure out something for the Rays, and then they will look into expansion.

I wonder if MLB would consider the As moving to Vegas, same as the Raiders.

I can see the Rays moving to Montreal, there is a strong movement for a team to return there. Then maybe North Carolina, although that is serious Braves fans there, creating the same issue the Rays have in Tampa, which is Yankee land, with NY retirees and NYY holding ST in Tampa area as well.

Nashville, San Antonio, Monterrey all make sense, and I have heard some interest from Portland wanting a ML team.

How big of a market is Nashville? And wouldn't that be Braves country?
