Quote from Randy Manese on December 13, 2022, 3:46 pmThe Japanese team has Yu Darvish! I hope they don't overuse him especially after all the innings he pitched last year for us in season and post season.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on December 13, 2022, 3:49 pmI can't wait. The Dominican team could be insane. Japan has some young phenoms in Roki Sasaki and Munetaka Murakami who should be fun to watch against top competition.
I just wish they were playing at Petco. I was there when Adam Jones robbed Manny. That was some of the most fun I've ever had at the ballpark.

Quote from Henry Silvestre on December 14, 2022, 2:29 pmI dont get this move at all from Red Sox point of view.. this team looks terrible on paper and has more holes than Swiss Cheese ..KJ is like a final piece for a ship team.. not the prominent FA signing for a team with 1 Star.??

Interesting to see what he would bring in return?
A lot of people here value Kim more so should give us a good idea of what is realistic.

I know we did not see much out of Mateo while in SD … but his 2022 as the BALT regular SS may have really taken him up in value.
Kim and Mateo had basically the same number of PA but offer different pluses and minus, so a bit of the buyer preference due to team needs.
Hitting (wRC+): advantage Kim 105 v 82 (Balt a better hitting park)
Fielding (dWAR): advantage Mateo +14.5 v + 10 (really good for both)
SB (important with the new rules): advantage Mateo 35 v 12
WAR: advantage Kim 3.7 v 2.8
Contract (and this could be a big factor): advantage Mateo at about $1.8MM (3 years control) v Kim $7MM (2 years control).
==============
So, don’t think of the Padres’ / A’s Mateo but think the much much better O’s Mateo with a real bargain contract (if you believe he can sustain that performance which he should since his value is based on defense and basestealing).

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 21, 2022, 6:08 amI'd love to have Mateo back...after all,we're short handed on shortstops.
But,as a bench piece...he is worth more than that to other SS needy teams.
Speed will be a rising commodity in the coming years.

Watch Howell CF/2B/SS in ST ... We got him from Brewers in the C trade last spring.. he was heating up .May .900 OPS and June .922 OPS before injury cost him the season...probably the fastest spec in our system atm...

Under the most recent CBA, part of luxury tax payments fund players' benefits and retirement plans, and the rest (half after the first $13 million) is distributed to teams under the threshold.Mar 4, 2022
