See that (no surprise) that Hosmer did NOT opt-out.
Makes for an interesting decision first by Boston. They are just paying him league minimum BUT he does take up a roster slot and they have their top prospect for 1B. His time in BOST was not all that great and end-up with injury.
Might BOST just release him?
Given he is guaranteed 3 years of money and not likely to get another contract after that …. Might Hosmer in that situation just not sign with another team and, in effect retire on the Padres ticket?
Interesting watch.

WOW!.. Honestly Andruw Jones didn't get enough LOVE as a player..I know he was great.. But this shows you how great..Awesome!

This comparison is deceiving.
I believe Jones had like 1,200 more AB's during this same time frame to even get close to Trout.
That's why despite the offensive numbers being similar Trout has about 40 more OWAR.
They left PA's off the comparison

Does that mean Jones was AVAILABLE for 1200 more plate appearances? Avail-ability is often considered a great ability.
Who knows, maybe if Trout had been available all those extra plate appearances( almost 2 seasons worth?), the Angels may have had better seasons.....like the Braves?

I like them both…think they’re both Hall of Famers.
But this makes it “appear” that Jones was close,and in some ways better than Trout offensively.
That’s simply not close to being true.

Saw the note on MLBTR that after the Nimmo signing the METS are over $335MM in AAV and the last tier where they will pay a 90% penalty for any additional player signed … eg a $22MM sign would cost Cohen $40MM … and the METS are still in on Senga and Bassitt … Cohen has got money.
Plus they are already paying $60MM in penalties … as much as the total payroll of some teams. Whew!

No matter how much Seidler spends we won't be tops in payroll.
Not my money...but I'd prefer to never have that title.

On that subject….not sure about you guys but I didn’t realize the Colorado Rockies have a top 10 payroll at the moment.
I mean….really?
I guess paying to trade your best player and then adding insult to injury by signing Kris Bryant will do that.
They’re paying Bryant $28 mil and Arenado $16…that’s a whopping $44 mil for neither to play for them last year(basically).
Rockies fans probably hate the Padres right now.
