No way Gallo gets 5 years from anyone given his recent decline in production. Maybe 2 years at $10MM per year or even just one year (basically what he is making in 2022) and from his perspective to build some value leading to a more substantive deal. (However, if he turns it around later in 2022, all bets off) If it becomes a short deal, I could see Preller stepping in. Maybe not even as an alternative to Myers (could resign Myers if he too signs short and low) ... the odd man would be Voit. Padres will have such a big need for OF, a one for one replacement is not enough.
Adell is a different problem. A top prospect ... but a prospect still with not much ML success over the past 3 seasons. Still only 23 with 5 years control and could be optioned in 2023. So IF the objective to improve the Padres ML CF situation in 2023 ... Adell would be a long shot, maybe better than Abrams and Ruiz but really how much in 2023. Angels are not going to give him up cheaply and probably would want a ML quality pitcher for 2023 since they are in the playoff hunt and have offense.
Would not trade Kim yet given Tatis' history of missing big chunks of seasons and no indication that Abrams will be ready to hit ML pitching in 2023.
Sign Gallo for CF and hold your breath? Shift Abrams to CF and hold your breath? Gamble on Ruiz making a Tatis/Abrams leap for AA and hold your breath? Actually Akiyama (down in AAA) might be better than Grisham the way he is playing in 2022.

Former Padre prospect Buddy Reed has been released by OAK.
At one time in college he was projected as a possible #1 pick in the MLB draft ... then he tailed in his final college season. Padres took him as the super athlete who IF HE HITS would be an super star. As with most of these types ... he did no not hit.

As we Padre fans worry about the production / cost value in some of the Padres players … consider the plight of TEX with their “elite” winter signings:
Marcus Semien (7 years / $175MM … $25MM AAV) is at 182/243/243 at a -0.3 WAR.
Corey Seager (10 years / $325MM … $32.5MM AAV) is at 245/315/430 at a 1.3 WAR
Jon Gray (4 years / $55MM) … $14MM AAV) has a 5.14 ERA.
Sure it is “early” in the year and in the contract BUT not the way the GM and ownership envisioned their push to be relevant and a contender in the AL West. All three are vastly under performing their deals.
Another warning to be reluctant to make long term deals even for “stars” that the media love …

Marcus Semien = Anthony Rendon.
I feel for Ranger fans.
Their excitement because their team “went for it” is gone but hopefully returns soon.
With Hou and LaA ahead of them it’s probably “wait till next year” already.

Hopefully those moves don’t put the Rangers into a multi-year second division cycle … that could be the result of an all in “go for it” strategy that fails.
If fans are “normal” they will immediately forget they were for the all in “go for it” strategy and start an ongoing harangue of front office incompetence. National media will quickly forget their hyping these guys and deserving those contracts and just ignore (or pan) their performance.

I saw a UF/FSU game in Jax when he was in School.
Can’t remember if his Junior or Senior year but he was “amazing” .
He hit a double 1st AB..then a 1b…then a 3b off the wall and then pegged a runner out at home.
I was ecstatic when we drafted him and none too happy when he was traded but it seems he never(like so many) hit at the highest level.

Speaking of FA in the offseason... just realized Nimmo (Mets) CF is a FA... i would guess he might be high on AJP list.. he is an OBP machine as well

Reds been playing really good ball since we played them.. Glad we went 6-0 vs them and are done...
