Around the League...non Padres

In case you've been feeling like the Padres should have held onto Anthony Bass for the past 8 years ... or ... you've wished you were a Twins fan instead of a Padres' fan ... the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence 🙂

Least win probability added in first 7 relief appearances of their team debut (since 1916)

Yeah, Athletic writeup of weird stuff in MLB (including Jake striking out MVP Betts & HR off Cy Young Bauer, plus Musgrove playing LF after a No-Hitter & catching fly ball from David Price hit off Jake) said he is the 1st Backup C EVER in MLB history to do so; no one else has caught more than 3.

The D Backs just swept the Braves in a double header allowing just ONE lone hit in the 14 innings.

Bumgarner with the first 7 inning complete game No Hitter.

At the moment the NL West is the only Division with “four” teams at or above .500.

What is going on with ATL? Many saw them as NL East’s top team after last season ... pitchers hurt and hitter not hitting (except for Acura).

AZ tossed out Gallen and Bumgarner ... both very good ... but still zero offense for ATL.

Would be nice for the Padres to be in a division (for a change) that doesn’t have the best team in MLB (LAD) and two other strong teams. That combo makes winning the NL West very difficult and will create a few more losses than runners up in other Divisions and potentially cost a Wild Card berth.

Just have to beat the teams they face is the standard comment ... and IF they are good they should some will argue. On the flip side, IF the World Series is the objective then making the playoffs (even as the Wild Card) has to be next up. Tough enough to play at peak vs the LAD for 19 games but if they have to go max to beat SF and AZ for another 38 games ... has to take a lot out of the roster by the time they get to SEPT.

From ATL perspective, the NL East was supposed to be the power house Division BUT 4 of the teams are below .500 and the Mets are not blowing the others away. ATL is still in a prime position to win the East.

This projects Padres to get 94 Ws ... 2nd most in MLB (to Dodgers 100)

We're very lucky to have missed Gallen & Bumgarner for the 2 game series coming up...

Their offense has been very good; I'm completely fine with a split here...

Patino's debut with Rays:  Started.  2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K (42 pitches, 30 strikes).  Assume they were limiting him to 40-50 P.

"deeper" on our former Farm:   3B Jason Vosler makes MLB debut for Giants 4/24, gets 1st hit yesterday:  1-3.
