The Padres open this series 2 games closer to the Dodgers and marks the return of Darvish, who is going up against Gallen in game 1. I don't expect Schildt to keep him in for more than 1 or 2 innings. But can the Padres go with a BP game for the 2nd day in a row?

I don't know what's going on with Merrill. He has not hit as well this season as he did last season and went 1 for 14 in this weekend's series against the Rangers. He need to find his swing.

Top NL West games: Dodgers(56-35) at Brewers(50-40), Giants(48-42) host Phillies(53-37)

GO PADRES!

Three things with Merrill this season. One, IMO Merrill is too pull/power focused this season. He and Crone both need to get back to using the whole field and driving it into the gaps. We dont need 30 Hrs each from these two, 15-20 each with a lot of doubles would be just fine.

Two, the league has made adjustments to him, and he cant layoff up and down pitches right now.

Three, he has been injured twice, his timing is probably a little off still.

Darvish activated

Hart optioned

King to 60 day IL retroactively ... so could return in about 2 weeks (but not likely until early August)

Brewers lead Dodgers 5-0 after 1 inning.

Oddly might prefer the Dodgers beat the Brewers ... a long haul to overtake the LAD for the West but nip and tuck with MILW for a wild card slot ... so would like they to falter giving the Padres a better position.

I would prefer the Dodgers to lose and they did lose. The Padres still have an opporunity to win the NL West as there is still alot of season left.

Merrill looks completely lost at the plate right now. Padres pitchers aren't getting any borderline strike calls and Gallen is getting all of them. Frustrating night so far.

I just came here to ask about Jackson.

Anyone think either of his injuries are still effecting him? He was absolutely mashing before his first IL stint.

He's just way too aggressive. Pitchers have figured out that they don't have to throw him strikes. He's chasing way off the plate in every direction. Fastballs at his eyes. Breaking balls in the dirt. He's chasing balls he has no chance of doing anything with.

Sounds like he, Jake, and Nando need to take part in some deep meditation sessions. You know, just chill out and take what's given to them.  Going up looking to hit a 5 run HR every time up never works.

Can't believe Rodriquez hasn't gotten into their ear about that. Or else dudes just aren't listening. Easy for EVERYONE to see what's wrong with these guys. They need to see it themselves.
