Cubs are going with a BP game tomorrow starting with Kittredge. The Padres need to take advantage of that tomorrow.

Wow, that is interesting.  Let's hope we can make them burn through their relievers (with high pitch counts) and pull out a W.

Seems like a reasonable gamble by the CUBS. Win and they have Imanaga and Tallion to start the next series ... lose and can still come back with either for game 3 and have the other to start the next series and follow with Boyd.

Padres can come back (see 1984) ... CUBS just playing the odds favoring them to win one of the next two games at home. Guessing others would prefer they go for the kill in game 2 and set-up a "rest" without a game 3 saving the pen arms and eliminating risk of injury. Probably not a "right" choice ... just two options with unknown outcomes and only "wrong" if the one chosen does not work (second guessing party!).

Padres bats need to come around ... scoring 1-2 runs will not do it.

I'm pretty sure Imanaga is going to be the bulk guy today. I think this is just about taking advantage of our lefty heavy lineup. They can let him avoid Tatis and Machado the first time through and potentially start his outing with 4 of the first 5 hitters he sees batting from the left side the way Shildt has been putting it together lately.

If Imanaga is going to be the bulk guy, once again I think you need to start Iglesias at 2B, and save Crone for the right moment against a RHRP.

Actually would consider Iglesias to DH - O'Hearn to LF - Sheets on bench.

Last two weeks of the season Sheets has been a worse hitter than Cronenworth plus for the full season Cronenworth has hit LHP better (especially OBP).

Can debate between the defense in LF between O'Hearn and Sheets (neither all that good) but give Croney the edge over Iglesias at 2B (at this stage of his career).

Probably could make a case for Johnson (at least so far has been playing over his head ... but effective ... this season) in LF as a switch-hitter. Sit BOTH Sheets and Cronenworth? However, really doubt they sit Cronenworth.

Game 2 Lineup
1. Tatis RF
2. Arraez 1B
3. Machado 3B
4. Merrill CF
5. Bogaerts SS
6. O'Hearn DH
7. Sheets LF
8. Cronenworth 2B
9. Fermin C

Cease P

Maybe Cease will be short term and King will be brought in.

Either way, IMO it would have been nice to have the extra RH bat in the line up. Doesnt matter now, line up is set, just get a win today boys!!

Mason Miller is pretty good! Just turned 27 and Padres control him for 4 more years thru 2029.
