I absolutely hated having Merrill sacrifice in the 4th inning with a one run lead.
Do Not give up an out with one of your best hitters!

Nah, Swanson made 2 plays that any big league SS makes. Even the ex big leaguer in the booth suggested Bogarts froze.
With as bad as our offense is, any chance for a run, you gotta take it.
Down now 2-1, BOTH those runs are looking HUGE.

Now that's how you play fundamental baseball: runner on 3rd, less than 2 outd, shorten your stroke, hit the ball where it's pitched.
Cubs aren't making mistakes or missing opportunities.

I think my only second guess for the day is why did we not start Iglesias instead of Crone at 2B. Seems with a tough LHP on the mound, the RHH Iglesias might have been a better option.

Well, now have to win 2 straight in Chicago. The Cubs are not going to beat themselves and are very solid defensively. Got to hit better tomorrow.
Not scoring those 2 runs with a runner at 3rd and less than 2 outs early in the game was devastating. I'm shocked with the way the wind was blowing in and as well as Pivetta was throwing that he gave up 2 gopher balls.
Missed Laurano today for sure. Let's bounce back tomorrow! Go Pads!

Besides if you do that, you have Croney as a PH If they bring up a RHP for Iglesias late in the game. With the 3 lefties in a row, you set up a guy like Pomeranz in a very favorable match up, at the end, our worse fear came up, clutch situation, a guy on third, less than two outs, and nothing but lefties lined up vs a LHP.

Cubs are going with a BP game tomorrow starting with Kittredge. The Padres need to take advantage of that tomorrow.

No way after 162 games they’re gonna bench their starting second base for game one of the playoffs.
Smart or not, that’s just not gonna happen
