Laureano has moved up in the order so will get the AB's. Now he needs to get the hits.

Edit: shame he didn't get one there in the 9th......

I thought Laurano's (or any player that switches leagues) PAs in the AL do not count for the NL batting title.

Willie McGee? Forget the year but went from St.Louis to.....Oakland?

Just looked it up, It was 1990, but It was a different case, when traded, he already qualified, he had more than 500 PAs in the NL, therefore he won the NL batting title, even though he was an AL player by the end of the year.

MULTIPLE LEAGUES
A player appearing in multiple leagues and/or levels of play in the same season may qualify for overall Major League or Minor League leadership if he:

  • Meets the HIGHEST minimum standard of plate appearances (or innings pitched) in any single league or level of play, OR
  • Meets the HIGHEST minimum standard of plate appearances (or innings pitched) across all leagues and levels of play combined, OR
  • Meets the minimum standard of plate appearances (or innings pitched) in ANY individual league in which the player played.

Next three series....9 games against Min/Bal/Col

We need to win all three series and go 7-2 or 6-3 minimum before we get to the Reds.

By that time the Reds will likely be out of the playoff hunt as well.

Cin has been struggling right when they needed to make a run so a WC spot is pretty much assured for SD at this point.

But I want the Division still!

Let's get King & Merrill back and win every series the rest of the way.

Nailed it 🙁

The thing about Cease this year though is that his stuff is still there.

All he's lacking is command and execution of his pitches.

Somebody will get a bargain when they sign him for $5-$10 mil per season less than what he would have gotten had he had another year like 2024.

His K/9 is actually up this year but his BB% and HR% are up.

His hits/ip is still good.

So IMO this season is an anomaly and at the worst time for him.

He'll still get paid though.....that's for sure.

I don't think you can call this season an anomaly. It's been very similar to his 2023 season. Cease has been inconsistent most of his career. He's really just a 2 pitch pitcher which makes it hard for him to succeed when he doesn't have good feel for 1 of them. When he has both he can be dominant. It just hasn't happened consistently enough for most of his career. He's had a 4+ ERA in 4 of his 7 seasons. Last year he really didn't get going until July. I hope he can lock in to close out the year. I just don't have much faith that he will.

Intetesting that the article quotes my exact opinion- no to Cease starting a playoff game. Each game is FAR too important to Risk Good Cease/Bad. Cease
