Let Oscar Gonzalez have LF against LH for a few weeks.....we'll see if he can keep it.

Given his alternatives are Lockridge, Joe, and unproven Perlaza as a RHH ... don't see an immediate better choice.

I think Oscar has had better PAs than is showing in the box score ... anyone else seeing that?

So, totally agree with getting Oscar into LF vs LHP for a few weeks!

Newsweek Sports' Zach Pressnell proposed the Cubs add right-hander Michael King to their injury-riddled rotation. In return, the Padres would receiver infielder/outfielder James Triantos, outfielder Kevin Alcantara, and right-hander Jaxon Wiggins.

IMO, this would be a huge mistake and I hate this trade idea. Top pitchers should not be traded when the team is doing well. I'd rather see Cease traded for the right players.

Looks as though the reporter is just trolling ideas but with little sense of the Padres position.

Trading King for any mix of prospects would effectively forfeit any reasonable chance for the playoffs. Can't survive without what has turned out to be their #1 SP. Keeping the chance of the playoffs supersedes all else ... and especially for a singles hitting 2B/OF, an 5 tool OF (if he can hit), and a "nice" future pitcher.

He had two other Padre trade proposals where the Padres give up prospects (a lot) ... one for Robert (CWS) which makes no sense given Robert's injury history and BIG remaining contract for top prospects.

The third had them landing LHP Abbott from the Reds for some heavy prospect capital ... Abbott is good (3-4 ERA as a SP) with 4 years control so the cost should be steep. If the Padres are all in for the playoffs ... this one almost makes sense if the Reds buy in. Really not all that sure on the scouting report / projection on Abbott.

Just fun speculation at this point ... call back in July.

I had a trade idea to trade Cease to the Marlins for Griffin Conine and Robby Snelling. But now Conine went on the 60-day IL for dislocated shoulder. So much for that idea. How about Stowers instead of Conine.

Ryan Bergert Finds the Road to the Show

Fangraphs projecting a Stephen Kolek start against the Yankees on the road on 6 May.  Not sure why they wouldn't project Bergert, given he's already up and they just brought up a RH RP in Morgan.  That game is still over a week away, so we'll see how Kolek fares in the minors as well as Bergert and Morgan for the big league team until then.  Not much difference in the underlying stats between Bergert and Kolek at El Paso, so its almost a toss-up for me, although I still see more potential in Bergert.

Can’t use Bergert out of the Pen “and” sit him for four days to make a start.

Guessing if somehow they don’t use him he could make that start…..they may be just hedging their bets.

Not sure where Fangraphs gets that kind of info from or why they would speculate Kolek though?

Guess they went with Kolek because he pitched in majors last season vs Bergert who is more of an unknown.

IF it is Kolek ... who goes down, Bergert or Morgan? I suspect it will be Bergert since the Padres probably want to continue to use him as a SP if needed later.

Kyle Hart getting his first start this coming Tuesday since demotion in OKC, which is relatively flat (1300 feet) compared to other cities the Chihuahuas play in.  Wishing him well - a real competitor who deserves another shot soon.
