2025-26 Offseason thread

PreviousPage 21 of 77Next

Welcome back!   Just to catch you up on things, Cortes is out for the entire year with arm surgery so don't think want to pay 2 guys to sit out the season.  Likely not enough money to sign Cease or King and 50/50 chance that Iglesias comes back.  I don't know who Westmoreland is but it has been rumored that the Padres might be interested in Castellanos - a power bat but lot of swing and miss and possibly team chemistry issues.

It will be an interesting offseason - hang on!

With a lot of transactions today, QO accepted and rejected, players added to the 40 man for Rule V draft protection, and players designated for assignment.

SD has added Hawkins and Mendez to the 40 man.

Some decent players DA, one I would like to see acquired/signed in JJ Bleday. Bats LH and can handle CF, would be a nice 4th OFer, with a little pop and an OPS+92 last season, but a career OPS+ of 99.

Thanks.

Forgot about Cortes injury.

I meant O'Hearn not Westmoreland (who was a real player).

I still contend that if the Padres don’t spend the bulk of their available money on “quality “ SP, they may not even make the playoffs and would never advance far if they did. So, put offense on the back burner and then bargain hunt.

Pivetta then ?  Musgrove is back after a year and a half due to TJ and that is not normally a scenario for a full immediate return to top form for a player in his 30s. Vasquez a bottom of the rotation type. Then ??????? Of a string of fringe options to cover 2 slots plus injuries during the season.

money targets pitching…

Hi All - back after a long hiatus.

Id keep Morejon and Miller in pen. Injury history scares me. Reynolds definitely has starters build. Hoeing? As conversion candidates?

Resign Cortes.

Pay Cease. Let King walk (again injury issues).

Interested in a Westmoreland reunion and maybe a flyer on Castellonos. Need pop. Sheets needed as bench piece. Ramon Urias or Iglesias for UTIL?

Just spitballing to keep the discourse going.

Nice to "see" you all. What? No PFF?

I think he retired from Padre Social Media

I see him on Facebook the few times I log in though

May have to gamble on guys with injury histories who could pay off if they can stay healthy....Dustin May and Michael Soroka as a couple examples.

But if they get hurt "again",we'd be in trouble.

I know Fenn is worried about the SP, and as well should be, but MLBTR just put out a list of potential DFA candidates. One of interest to me would be Jake Burger. RHH that might make a good pairing with Sheets for DH/1B. Popped 16 HRs last season and a 99 OPS+, and a little better than that v. LHP.

I’d be OK with Burger as a bench/PH/back up 1B bat

Has anyone mentioned on this board John Seidler's potential sale of the team?
