Apparently Preller couldn't find a market for Reynolds and Omar Cruz and non-tendered both of them. Had enough space on the 40 man to keep them and both are making just above minimum, so looks like they believe they have better candidates in the minors.
Got Campy to sign for 900K, which is a bargain in my opinion. For that price, look locked into the #2 catcher role and I'm sure Stammen will work extensively with him to improve his coordination and communication with the pitching staff.
The tendering of Sears and Adam may signal that there is more money in the budget than we thought. Thought that both were candidates for non-tender and then we engage in negotiating a salary at a lower rate or over a longer period of time to draw down their potential salary impact on the CBT.

Don’t understand the rationale on Cruz and Reynolds non-tenders. Space on 40 man ( a lot) and league minimum … how is this better than DFA at the point they need roster space? Usually don’t get rid of an asset before needed.

Roster now sits at 34 … hard to imagine the Padres signing that many FA (6) who would make the 26 man or end up in the minors but on the 40 man. Not that much in house who were not protected from rule 5 either. Actually 7 if needed to put Darvish on the 60 day.

With so many openings on their roster it is fun to predict how they fill these spots. SP still has a priority but they are woefully thin on the bench. Here's my guess as to how the 6-7 roster spots get filled.
From Japan: SP Kona Takahashi
From Korea: SP Cody Ponce and possibly INF Sung-mun Song
1 Rule 5 player drafted
Re-sign FA's Iglesias and Arraez (depends upon the money available in the next line)
Best available FA's they can afford
Got to role the dice on foreign and return from injury SP's. Morejon becomes a SP and Miller becomes the closer.
It should be a fun off-season watching Preller fill out the roster. It sure would be nice for the Team Sale to happen sooner than later so we know the parameters within which Preller is working. Got my fingers crossed that new owner will be multi-billionaire Steve Ballmer.
By the way, the latest reports I saw indicated that the Padres still have about 1 Million left under the International Signing Bonus Pool that will expire in mid-December. Wonder if there is anybody out there worth signing?

Fill in for a minor league roster spot?
Don't see any upside of him suiting up in San Diego. Rather give Eguy an opportunity.
Edit: is he even still in the system???

Guessing after the core 8 for position players they retain Campusano (C) and Johnson (CF) and work on upgrading the final three of McCoy, Wagner, and Ornelas.
Pitching has a SP need but a pretty full slate RP. So the focus here should be clear.

And if he wants to take down the Duds, what better destination than SD?

Is the ex Yankee they signed someone who will subplant McCoy?
And I say give Tirso a real chance next year. If he struggles early, then move on.
Wagner certainly didn't look like much of a major leaguer.
I'm sure there'll be a few veterans available to fill those last 3 spots. To steal a quote from the NFL, " line 'em up 3 deep and let 'em compete"

So Stammen is bringing in one of his old coaches in Randy Knorr to be his bench coach and one of his old teammates in Stephen Souza Jr to be his hitting coach. Knorr has a lot of coaching experience. Souza apparently spent this past season as a special "hitting development" advisor for the Rays. He doesn't seem to have any major league coaching experience. Acee says they're also close to hiring a new 3B coach and that Brian Esposito and most of the rest of the staff will remain with the organization. I don't know how I feel about Souza. I guess if you were picking an organization for a guy to learn in The Rays would be near the top of the list. I'm just not sure about going with someone so young and inexperienced. He's only 3 years past his playing days.
