2024 NL Wild Card race

PreviousPage 5 of 8Next

Today should be a great day for scoreboard watching! Padres are off with 9 games to play but the other challengers for the playoffs are all playing with 10 games to play … that puts everyone on equal games after today. As it stands based on losses:

LAD: 62 vs MIA in MIA

SD: 66 OFF

AZ: 68 vs MILW in MILW

NYM: 68 vs PHIL in NY

ATL: 70 vs CINN in CINN

So worst case scenario after today the Padres retain a 4 game lead (and tiebreaker I think) over ATL with 9 games to go (Fangraphs has the Padres at 99.6% chance of making the playoffs). 2 game lead over AZ and NYM for the 1st Wild Card slot.

See some losses today and the Padres extend their lead. If LAD also loses keeps the hope of a Division title moving the Padres within 3 games and 3 games to play vs LAD. So “there is a chance”!

LAD have a big lead in the 7th, looks like SD will drop back to 4 games behind for the division.

And ATL won big today.

NYM and AZ play later tonight.

A big lead is an understatement. The Dodgers slaughtered the Marlins 20-4.  Ohtani has 10 RBI, 3 HR and 2 doubles.

Ohtani is unbelievable. 6-6 with 3 HRs, 2 2Bs, 2 SBs and 10 RBI to. That might be the greatest single game performance ever. He's going to win another MVP without pitching.

It was 9-3 when I checked the score, and then it must have gotten really out of hand.

Not looking like a good day for SD gain ground.

LAD pounded MIA.

AZ is ahead in MIL.

NYM are ahead over PHI.

And ATL has already one as well.

Imagine if he'd have hit for the cycle????

I never saw Ruth or Williams play, and Mays and Aaron were at the end of their careers when I saw them but I'm willing to throw Ohtani's name into the greatest ever debate. We're watching history unfold before our eyes. What a treat.

This is the very reason I had hoped he wouldn't sign with the dodgers.

Amazing talent.....hard to root for playing in LA

So who do you want to face in the WC round and why?

Az,NYM,Atl?

AZ … since generally good pitching beats good hitting … AZ is likely to run out the poorest first three SP in a 3 game series while the Padres SP should be able to contain AZ hitting at PETCO (assuming Padres retain home field).

Top 3 SP for NYM and ATL over the past 30 days have been really good … all the top 3.

Offensively for the season the AWAY has the three teams relatively close with AZ - NYM - ATL in that order. Mets have had the slightly better pitching and offense … so they would be the one I would like to miss but somewhat at toss up here.
