Looking like the Padres are converting him from a starter to a relief pitch who can go more than one inning. At 26 and this was the last year with a minor league option … probably his best shot at the ML.

Had command issues in the past but doing well in the PCL this season (not a great place for pitchers) but in only 18 appearances (32+ innngs). Decent ERA / WHIP and decent walk rate.

Was considered a good prospect for years with starter potential … looks as that is in the past … but has some decent stuff so if command settles in still has a chance for the ML pen. Should get a real shot next spring with Suarez and Wilson the only two RHRP with a firm grasp on what should be 4 or 5 RHRP slots. Honeywell and Carlton are bubble types and Martinez is not going so well out of the pen right now and the club option his costly so may be declined (unless he becomes effective and a starter). Not sure wh0 else is a better option (as it stands now) for what should be multiple openings.

Big three series coming off this victory today. Three at home with the very bad WASH then in PITT who have tanked after a hot start then the red hot CINN in CINN who by then could have the hot spell cool off and SD can capitalize (they are the better team). Next nine games are very winnable and can close the WC gap before the Angels arrive in SD for a three game set (that might be a real litmus test).

The last 3 before that All-Star break are at home vs the NYM … could be a fun match of (up until now) 2 underperforming big payrolls.

I think this Giants series may have been my Randy Quaid turning point. I am so freaking angry at this squad and their putrid offense. This should have been an easy 4 game sweep, and instead we're limping back 1-3 against an absolutely inferior team (on paper). I don't even care what the problem is anymore. F*cking fix it. Now.

Just saw this. I think it could be a big tool for player development.

Will Myers officially released, Myers at minimum salary or Brandon Dixon ?

Which Myers … the Padres’ version (yes) … the CINN version (no). I like Myers but in a hitter’s park in CINN really struggled and then the IL with Kidney Stones make the current version a big question mark.

Add that I have a bias about “going back again” after moving on from a player.

I however would take the gamble (in absence of other options) if the Padres see a need at 1B for a RHH … Croney is struggling, and if an injury comes Myers may have a better chance to do a bounce back that Dixon’s performance at 1B.

Taking Myers view … would not be surprised to see a couple of teams make offers with some assurance of starting which would allow him to create some traction for a 2024 FA contract. For those team (probably the worst teams) might just bring him on at a minimum for a month … hope he hits … and use him as a trade deadline trade chip.

Hope for some consistency but for now Grisham is having a good month of June.

(62 AB) 258/324/387 … his K% is down as is his power (only 1 HR). Maybe the sitting him in the #9 slot in the batting order (ahead of Tatis) helped and maybe the coaching got to him by focusing on more contact over the big swings.

With his defense … that slash line makes him an asset … hope he continues thru the season.

Obviously a season of ifs and and buts already but just in the last couple weeks…pitching Darvish against the Guardians, the Rockies blunder of a game, and even winning 3 of 4 when they should have swept the giants would have the Padres in the wildcard if the season ended today. 4-5 games in 2 weeks is really a shame. But here they are with a chance to right the ship pretty quickly. Hopefully Waldron can keep it close

Not sure what to think.........

I just compared the stat lines after 70+ games of Ha Seong Kim and Xander Bogaerts. And they are virtually identical!

Does that mean Kim is punching WAY above his weight, or that Bogaerts is giving us for $25 million what we could have had for $7 million?

I didn't know much of Bogaerts game before we signed him( I was ALL in on signing Trea). He does nothing special, at least what I've seen so far.

I hope he starts earning his pay.......and soon!
